have the skills and knowledge to• Generally describe US and OSU student populations; • Identify aspects of US and OSU student populations

with which you are unfamiliar and may be challenging for your teaching;

• Develop ideas for working with diverse student populations in your classrooms; and

• Locate resources to support you in your teaching.

What % of students nationally reported planning to obtain a bachelor’s and/or advanced degree?

• Is it higher or lower than 50%?

Approximately 97.6% of undergraduates reported that they plan to obtain at least a bachelor’s degree.

What % of students nationally reported they believe they will graduate in four years?

• Is it higher or lower than 75%?

Approximately 84.3% of undergraduates reported that they believe they will graduate in four years. On average, only 40.6% of students do graduate in four years.

What % of students nationally reported their family earning below the poverty line ($22,350 for a family of 4)?

• Is it higher or lower than 5%?

Approximately 14.6% of undergraduates reported that their family earned below the poverty line the previous year.

• Is it higher or lower than 50%?

Approximately 67.9% of undergraduates reported concern about paying for college education, with 12.6% saying it is a major concern.

What % of students nationally reported their religion to be Christian?

• Is it higher or lower than 75%?

68.3% of undergraduates reported their religion to be Christian. 23.8% reported having no religion, 2.3% reported Jewish, 1.3% reported Buddhist, 1.4% reported Muslim, 2.9 % reported other religion.

• Is it higher or lower than 10%?

11% of undergraduates reported having a disability, with some differences in characteristics such as race/ethnicity, age, and veteran status.

Who are US students?

What % of students nationally reported being diagnosed or treated by a professional for anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia, or other mental health condition?

• Is it higher or lower than 5%?

9.5% of students reported being diagnosed or treated for the above conditions. Other conditions included anorexia, bulimia, insomnia, panic attacks, and substance abuse.

24.8% of undergraduates reported having had tutoring or remedial work in high school in at least one subject area. 40.2% of students believed they would need tutoring or remedial work in college.
