Amphibious Warrior Scuba Wear is finally here! The conservation scuba clothing company is on a mis-sion.

We started AWSW over a year ago when we couldn't find any dive clothing that we liked enough to wear after the dive trips. We all have them in our closet somewhere right..? Neon colored super thin half faded memories that you'll only dig out to wear on your next dive trip.

Not the case with AWSW! Our designs are always crisp, timeless, and just plain cool. Printed on high qual-ity materials with a keen eye on urban fashion you'll want to wear your AWSW all year round!

AWSW - clothing with a cause, The real Conservation scuba clothing - AWSW

With our love of diving comes a love and appreciation for wildlife.  A portion of net proceeds will go to our favorite enviromental causes like: Sea Shepherd & Steve Irwins Wildlife Warriors. By Captain Paul Watson

Adieu my darling, the whales of the sea are dying and we know why,

Slaughtered by pirates, we must follow their cry,

The engine hums, turns, moves slow, so far to go,

The cry of “Thar she blows” erupts, as hot blood from gaping wounds do flow.

The cold sea is so embarrassed for us, all certainties disappear,

We need only empty our sad hearts of fear,

We voyage so far, so very far from land,

To a so very lonely place, very lonely, where we make our stand.

A ship of heroes? Or a wise ship of fools? What is wrong? What is right?

People of peace forced into a complex fight,

In a crazy charge against insanity,

We are such a small insignificant fraction of humanity.

So many self righteous cynics, so much hatred, selfishness, and greed,

For humanity to grow, the world must bleed,

We can feel the anger, the fear, and the hate,

Staring into the cold eyes of bureaucratic minions of the State.

FEATURED FOUNDATIONThe harpoons thunder, pierce, and explode in a fiery vicious rape,

Pantheistic shields repelling waves of hate,

Her dying screams echo darkly inside my mind,

Gasping, thrashing, in agonized horror at the cruelty of mankind.

Into this wild sea of slaughter we voyage, sailing close hauled with the law,

Jagged open wounds torn, ragged, red, and raw,

Humanity destroying life in God¹s name,

Cowards coveting blood money, searching for other species to blame.

Humanity has lost the desire to endure a selfless quest,

In serving this living Earth there is no rest,

Enduring ridicule and the ignorant jests,

Humankind has long forgotten that we remain temporary guests.

The magical nature of this voyage is shrouded in mystery,

The magic can be glimpsed in our history,

Upon this great black ship, we all are blessed,

Unless and except those whose treacherous natures remain unconfessed.

Tragedy has struck those few who have lied, sabotaged and betrayed,

Mediocrity followed those who have strayed,

Powers sprung forth from an unfathomable source,

We keep to our course guided by the light of this benevolent force.

Over the dark shroud of the sea we move, wedded to the tidal flood,

The rising moon provokes the salt in our blood,

Songs of whales vibrate the rhythm in our souls,

World changing songs transcending time, lapping on uncaring coral shoals.

Be ’twixt the dimensions of reality defined by human thought,

Nature¹s world that humanity has long fought,

Imprisoned in our encyclopedia,

Replaced by the trivial hysteria of modern media.

Hypnotized by charismatic whores peddling utopian dreams,

Bread and media circuses masking schemes,

Truth is distorted to what they want to hear,

Manipulating mass movements to govern by false hope and by fear.

Willing the wind, waves, weather, and currents to carry out her com-mands,

The spirits of the victims scream their demands,

Harnessing the strength of her intrepid knights,

To sally forth in forest, desert, plain, and sea in a thousand fights.

Ahead lies violent death, inspired by the coal black heart of culture,

A ship that laps steaming blood like a vulture,

Three little killers with deadly little dicks,

Blowing holes in the holy mind of the sea for profit and for kicks.

Hominid cockroaches scurry evilly over mutilated whales,

Nations weigh decisions on corrupted scales,

Talk, the excuse for doing nothing at all,

Diplomacy, the justification for the Japanese to stall.

The resolute spirit of the samurai has long been laid to rest,

Seppaku, a mere step upon Sedna¹s breast,

Seaman swallowed by a cold blooded kraken,

A sacrifice that the consciousness of Moana may awaken.

The albatross guides this fair black ship protected by a karmic shroud,

Southward under the land of the long white cloud,

Onward to the edge of the far Southern Sea,

As the whales flee from the deadly harpoons, the killers before us flee.

O.R.G. Educational FilmsSHARKS: Predators With A Purpose

Shark populations are dropping all over the world due to shark fishing and finning practices. Few people

realize the incredible importance of sharks in the marine ecosystem. This new ORG educational film is

designed to show to the importance of sharks and their plight in today's ocean.

"Large sharks have been functionally

eliminated from the east coast of the US,

meaning that they can no longer perform

their ecosystem role as top predators" -

Julia Baum a fisheries biologist at Dalhou-

sie University in Halifax, Canada

This film won the documentary award at

the 2008 Very Short Movies Festival and

an Honorable Mention for Educational

CONTEST

Junes contest of “abstarcts” proved to be one of the better ones, It had some great shots, had some

excellent comments, and awesome advice from Cathy Chuch. It also had some drama when at the end

there was a tie for first place between Cigdem Cooper and Makhruzi Rahman. Then to top it off I

forgot to add Cigdems 3rd place shot of her Wrasse to 3rd place! This is what happens when you have too much

on your plate at on time, you screw things up! None the less, wew got it all worked out and the top 3 are as fol-

lows:

1st place Cigdem Cooper, cover photo and Diver Almanac

2nd place Makhruzi Rahman

3rd place Cigdem Cooper

Great photos guys and we all look forward to seeing photos in the Julys contest. The theme for July will be

“NATURAL LIGHT” (no strobes). There are also some great tips from Diver Training as well on the boards.

Thinking Before You Shoot;

Annie Crawley's 10 Quick Tips for Success!

PROTIPSPHOTO &VIDEO

2 VIDEO PRO TIP

DIVE ZERO’S PRO VIDEO TIP

Every time before I dive, there is a strict method I follow to ensure my success with my system. This is the fun part, right before I am getting into the water, after I have planned my story, my destination, my purpose for shoot-ing. What I am talking about now is how we must become a bit AR, dare I say the words…anal retentive…about our equipment and our diving. Have you ever heard someone talk about the most amazing dive they ever had in their life, with nine whale sharks in one dive but nothing to show because their port was dirty?

I have seen people get in the water without charged batteries in which case your housing and camera becomes a useless lead weight. To prevent this and help you with success, I have compiled a few golden rules to think about while on your next dive!

Plan what you want to shoot before getting into the water. Visualize it, see it even before you make a splash.

Make sure your lens and port is clean, check how much tape you have left and make sure your batteries have a full charge. Verify full operation by working all essential controls: on/off, zoom, record, focus lock, white balance. As soon as you get in the water and set up your system, don’t forget to look at your port and wave your hand in front of it dislodging any bubbles or particles from the surface of the port.

Look up and figure out where the sun is. Shoot with the sun at your back unless you purposely plan a silhouette shot. Silhouettes can be extraordinarily dramatic in the right circumstances with enough distance between the camera, subject and sun, yet the golden ruling in lighting keeps the sun at your back.Compose your shot before hitting record, use the rule of thirds and ensure you leave “fish” room for your subjects. You want to hold the system as steady as possible, use a tripod for macro shots. Think of the camera angle and what is pleasing to your eye. Avoid shooting down at subjects unless you are going for a specific look.

Compose, Record, Stop, Move. Compose, Record, Stop, Move. Think of your edit. How are you going to piece your shots together? 10Wide, Medium, Close-up. Wide, Medium, Close-up. Think of your edit. How are you go-ing to piece your shots together?

DIVE ZERO’S PRO VIDEO TIP

Shoot 4-6 seconds of handles on the front and end of every shot. You want to make sure your camera is rolling before the action takes place and have extra on the end of your clip when action is finished.

Video is all about motion, so think about how you are going to get motion from your ocean. You can allow your subject to swim in and out of your shots or you can create the motion by swimming with the camera. You want to combine reveals, tracking and over the shoulder shots to completely tell your story and make your life easy at the edit station. Try and avoid the subject just popping up in the middle of the frame! Start with a pan left or right, or a tilt up or down that will introduce your subject to the frame.

Take the last 5 minutes of the dive to try something new! Shoot 30 seconds of a wild camera angle, pan or man-ual exposure control. Watching these tests might inspire your next creative technique.

Once you exit the water, take care of your equipment and dry off your port to avoid water stains. Take the time to review and log your tape everyday! This way you know immediately how to make corrections or if your day was successful!

And of course I recommend carrying my DVD with you into the field for reference.

Warm regards,Annie

Cathy ChurchShooting Abstracts

In April I briefly posted several photos to my facebook wall and called them abstracts. I have re-named the collection as my "Imagination Collection" as they are not truly abstracts except that you do not have to know what the image is, but let your imagination determine what the subject is.

Why did you choose this photo? What do you like about it? What does it make you think of?While I am at it, let's keep going. Where is the main point of interest? After you look there, what do you look at next?

The fish were lost to me in the web presentation. Maybe enlarged you will notice them more, but my eye went to the two bright areas -- at the top and the three tentacles lower down. the top ones lead my eye away from the fish. nothing lead me to the two fish.

Do you have footage and want it seen on Dive Zero TV?

For the past few months, I have been on the hunt for videos, not just any videos, but quality commercials. ads, or short movies about our Sharks. We all know there is a problem, I read about everyones displeasure all the time on Facebook, there must be a million zillion backers out there. Finning, long-lineing, poaching, over hunting and the list goes on.But I find this a bit confusing, why you ask? I must have emailed 1500 groups to support me in creating a dedicated channel to aid in the survival of sharks, a channel where

videographers can have there statement put out for the world to see and hear. How many replied... NONE! Everyone had a video or two, or new someone who did but yet when it came to doing just a bit or work to uploading a video, the person(s) were never heard from again! Are we posers, just wishing that things will

get better, close our eyes and magically, the shark population will be where it should be!

Wa n t YO U RPa r a d i s e o n

D Z T V ? Rob started off filming snow-boarding and extreme sports in the snowy hills of the southern

Albertan Rockies at Castle Moun-tain Ski Resort. Since then, he has added onto his extreme

sports filming list with freestyle motocrossing and producing a

skateboard video, which sold in 5 different continents across the world. He has now brought his

experience of filming and editing for the past 20 years, over to

scuba diving. The sport of scuba diving should be thanking Rob for his creativity and new angles that he has brought to the sport. Robs also a very accomplished under-

water photographer as well.

Growing up as a sponsored skateboarder, after high school, Luke decided to change his life completely 180 degrees around. He decided to become a scuba instructor. After completing the

course, he decided that he would take up underwater filming

instead. He came up with the idea of Dive Zero in late 2005, and has worked on it almost

everyday since. The whole idea was to bring to scuba diving,

what skateboarding, snowboard-ing and every other extreme sport has - a lifestyle. When Luke is not working on Dive Zero, scuba diving, traveling, and getting through everyday

scenarios that life brings, he still  manages to find time to skate-

board for his sponsors.
