Principal, Steve Dike Many new and exciting activities are taking place at Lansing High School. Our students are preparing for SAT and ACT testing this spring as well as our seniors preparing for graduation. As every school year comes to an end we begin to review all of the achievements of our students. The athletics programs within our school continues to excel and provides a character development setting that will stay and enrich many of our students lives for years to come. Academic excellence is inspired throughout our building. We are proud to announce Cole Domann as a Presidential Scholar Candidate. If he becomes a semifinalist he will be one of only 560 students in the United States left in the running to be a Presidential Scholar. Cole also earned a perfect composite score of 36 on his ACT earlier this year. Safety and Security is a critical component of operations within our building. We continue to provide training and resources to students and staff. Please contact me at [email protected] if you have questions regarding Lansing High School or our Activities Director, [email protected] if you have questions regarding athletics. http://www.usd469.net/lhs

♦ Implementation of the Kansas College and Career

Ready Standards continues in each of the buildings in the district. Kansas College and Career Ready Standards are based on the Common Core Standards that were adopted by more than 45 states, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Schools. There is a lot of familiar content in the standards, but the amount of attention given to high-level thinking skills like critical thinking, application of concepts learned and communication skills is a key difference in the standards.

♦ New state assessments are being given in grades three through high school. These assessments are being developed by the Center for Educational Testing and Evaluation located at the University of Kansas. With a new assessment, the results from the assessments will not be available from the state as quickly as they were in the past to allow for a comprehensive analysis of results.

♦ The high school curriculum has also included the addition of Advanced Placement (AP) courses at the junior and senior level as well as pre-AP courses at the freshmen and sophomore levels. Additional course offerings have also been approved in the last year in the areas of physical education and career and technical education. A culinary arts program was started as well as additional courses in our journalism department to include online journalism. Additional offerings in the business and marketing departments also add to our career and technical education offerings.
