Reapportionment

• Census every 10 years• All data must be complete in 2 years• Process of shifting the number of state

representatives among the State’s population. Done after the census

• 2010: Ohio and NY: lost two (biggest losses)• Texas: gained 4 Florida: gained 2

Redistricting

• Drawing of new district lines so as to reflect reapportionment.

• Roughly 700,000 per district (as close as possible)

Ohio Apportionment Board

• Issue 2 – 2012 FAILED• The board has five members:• the Governor of Ohio,• the Ohio Secretary of State,• the Ohio State Auditor,• One at-large REP member• One at-large DEM member
