District Heating is a method of producing and distributing heat from a central location to surrounding buildings through hot water pipes. This method is more ecient than conventional space heating and can reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions. A variety of heat sources can be used for this system including: fossil fuels, solar power, geothermal power, and waste heat from power production.
District heating can be incorporated with the potential construction of the North Central LRT along Centre Street and will connect to future LRT stations, businesses, amenities, community services, and private residences.
This project has the potential to bring the community together through the achievement of common goals. It will also encourage property owners to improve and maintain their property, adding to the aesthetic of the neighbourhood.
