About Auraiya District
Auraiya district, a part of Kanpur division is a district of Uttar Pradesh state with itsadministrative headquarters located at Auraiya town. After the down fall of Delhi andKannauj Muslim rulers came to Auraiya district and ruled it for a notable period. In thebeginning of the thirteenth century the place was invaded by Rajputs. In course of time,Sengars, Chauhans, Brahmans and Kayasthas were spread over the Auraiya district .Then the Mughal era started with the reign of Nasir-ud-din Muhammad Shah. After hisdeath Ibrahim Lodi came into power in 1517 AD but he lost much of his power andinfluence on his subjects because of his quarrel with his brother, Jalal Khan. Later,another Mughal ruler named Ahmad Shah Durrani came to India and captured it. Finally,the entrance of the British changed the whole scenario of the district. At the time ofIndian struggles for independence the people of this region participated very actively.After India got independence, the two tehsils namely Auraiya and Bidhuna were carvedout from Etawah district on 17 September 1997 in order to form a new separate districtnamed as Auraiya.
Geographically, the district lies at 26°47'N latitude , 79 °52'E longitude and 133m altitude. The district encompasses a geographical area 2,016 sq.km. and it is bounded byKannauj district on the North , Jalaun District on the South ,Ramabai Nagar district onthe East and Etawah district on the West . The climate remains extremely hot during thesummer and fairly cold during the winter. The actual rainfall in the district was 322.4 mmin the year of 2015-16.
Administration wise, the district is divided into 2 tehsils namely Auraiya and Bidhuna.Moreover, it comprises 9 towns and 839 villages. There are 2 Lok Sabha and 3 Assemblyconstituencies in the district.
According to 2011 census the district has a population of 13,79,545 (persons) out ofwhich 7,40,040 (males) and 6,39,505 (females). The district has a sex ratio of 864females for 1000 males. In the year 2001-2011 the population growth rate in the districtwas 16.91% (persons) including 16.4 % (males) and 17.51 % (females). The majorreligion in the district is Hindu with 92.32% of the total population.
The economy of the district is basically dependent on agriculture. Some of its chiefagricultural products are paddy, wheat, bajra, gram, mustard, sugarcane, etc. Most ofthe people in the district earn their livelihood from agriculture. The production level ofthe agricultural items depends on the irrigation facilities. Earlier there was well-irrigationin the districtbut at present it is largely replaced by canals. The district has also someindustries in the district which helps in its economy to a great extent. Some of itsforemost industries are combined cycle power plant of NTPC, Petrochemical Plant andGas Compressor Station of GAIL. In the year 2013-2014 the gross domestic product inthe district was Rs. 5,00,195 lakh at current price.

The district is an abode of numerous reputed educational institutions. It provides aplatform for higher education. Some of its recognised educational institutions are TilakDegree College, Gangaram Bajaj Inter College, Gopal Inter College, BTC Training Centre,Janta Inter College, Nagar Palicka Inter College, MR Educational Institute, etc. As per2011 census the literacy rate in the district is 78.95% (persons), 86.11% (males) and70.61% (females).
Ashok Kumar Doharey, a prominent India politician and a member of the 16th Lok Sabhawas born on 23 September 1970 at Rampura in the Auraiya district. He is a member ofthe Bharatiya Janata Party.
Every year numerous travellers from different parts of the country as well as world cometo this place in order to enjoy its various centres of attraction with historical andreligious significance. Some of its well known places of interest are Phoolmat temple, KaliMata temple, Sankat Mochanmandir, Jai Maa Kali mandir, Shittes Dhwarmandir, ShivMandir, etc.
