A special guest of honor at the Ocean City Club was our LizScott, mother of the late Alexandra Scott. and received acheck from the club for $2,000. It was Alexandra's idea 11years ago to hold a simple lemonade stand to raise moneyso that other children wouldn't have to suffer with forms ofpediatric cancer. Young Alexandra certainly put ServiceAbove Self. Although Alex is no longer with us, her legacylives on through the efforts of the Alex's Lemonade StandFoundation. To date, The ALSF has raised over $40,000,000(yes-forty million dollars) to aid in research and otherendeavors against pediatric cancers.

The Ocean City Club presented Liz with a check in theamount of $2000, recognizing the amount raised at ourmost recent lemonade stand fundraiser . Coincidently, thatis the exact same amount raised by Alex at her very firstlemonade stand. Including our recent $2000 donation, theOcean City-Upper Township Rotary Club has raised anddonated a total of $5450.00 to the Alex's Lemonade StandFoundation

Dear Rotarians - We have received our list of countries for our exchange students for2011-12. They will be arriving in August for the school year. Some of the students havealready been spoken for. The countries of our students for next year are:

Argentina - male - Ocean City/Cape May RotarySwitzerland - female - Mays Landing Spain - male - PitmanJapan - femaleThailandBrazil France Mexico

If your club is interested in any of the above countries that are not yet assigned - please let usknow as soon as possible. In addition - if you prefer a boy or a girl for one of these countries- let us know.

Since we have chosen 8 students from our district to travel abroad next year, we must placeall of 8 these foreign students in our district next year.

Will you please share this information with your membership to see if any of them would beinterested in opening their homes to a student from another country for several months nextyear? Each student should have a minimum of two and a maximum of four host families. Thefamilies do not necessarily have to be Rotarians, but should be recommended and interviewedin their home by a Rotarian. The only expense to the hosting club is that they provide the student with a monthlyallowance of $90 a month and also help to share in the expense of sending their student to thedistrict conference. Other than that, the student should be included in club activities andmeetings and a club counselor should be appointed. This should be someone other than a hostfamily member who maintains contact with the student throughout the year; just to be sureeverything is going smoothly. All students will arrive between the middle and end of Augustand will depart next June or July and come with spending money and health insurance.

If you or anyone in your club is interested, please contact us

Yours in Rotary, Bob and Carol SaghirianDistrict 7640 Youth Exchange [email protected] 856-228-1717
