HELLO TEAM! I cannot believe this season is coming to an end. I had the pleasure of working with so many great TEAMS – our Clubs, the District Leadership TEAM including AGs, and the dream TEAM Conference Committee this year! I also had the privilege of working with so many amazing Coaches – my Presidents, my Chairs, and YOU! I cannot tell you how proud I am of everything the District accomplished this year. Some of the “highlights” or “victories” of this year for me were: my “official” Club visits with the tours of your community projects, participating in the M.E.S.A. Bike Ride; Piggy for Polio and the Pizza for Polio Day, going “live” on Facebook, surpassing the tree challenge, presenting Paul Harris Awards or inducting new members, 4 Way Speech Contest and STRIVE Interviews, the International Convention in Atlanta and Water Conferences on the Road, several Interact and Rotaract Clubs, the Youth Peace Conference and Youth Development Conference. Most of all, I’m grateful for all the “Rotary” friends I made! From the bottom of my heart, I can’t thank you all enough for everything each of you did to make District 6600 victorious! It has been an honor and an amazing experience to be your District Governor. I am truly humbled by all your support, appreciation, and affection. Thank you so much for “Making a Difference” and may you “Be the Inspiration” now and in the future! Yours in Service! Deb Message from Governor Deb Cheney PLAYBOOK DISTRICT 6600 JUNE 2018

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE DISTRICT AWARD WINNERS:

Club Builder Award recipients are Alison Frye, Jerry Peacock, PDG Jim Hunt, and Ellen Hunt. This award honors deserving Rotarians in District 6600 who have significantly supported and strengthened their Rotary Clubs. They have recruited at least five members, participated in Rotary training in their club, participated in at least one meaningful club-level vocational service project, and attended at least two district meetings.

The Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service Award winner is Ron Stoner of Bowling Green Rotary Club. This award is to honor members who have been actively involved in service activities related to The Rotary Foundation, such as serving on a Foundation committee, participating in a grant-funded project, leading a GSE Team, or supporting a Rotary Peace Fellow. One is awarded each year.

The Rotary Foundation District Service Award was created to recognize Rotarians’ efforts to serve humanity and work toward world understanding and peace through Foundation programs. Up to 20 may be awarded annually. This year’s winners included Pam Brumbaugh, Liz Muether, Amber Fisher, Dean Niese, Chris Vogel, Clarence Wills, Robert Demby, Janet Long, Roger Skelley Watts, PDG Chuck Stocking, Aly Glover, Wes Grudzien, Tim Ryan, Ron Stoner, PDG Do Nguyen, John Hill, Ken Robinson, Greg Fish, Kathy Altman, DGN Carolyn Huston, and Bob Ruehl.

Only one Club per District can be recognized each year! President Tracie and the Rotary Club of Lima wanted to do a project this year to “make a difference” in their community. They created a plan that addresses homelessness and the opiate issue. Their goal is to eliminate homelessness in Lima.

Jim Page, Janina Douglas, and Melanie Satterfield earned the 2017-18 District Environmental Awards for our District water monitoring programs and for surpassing RI President Ian Riseley’s Tree Planting Challenge. Our District planted OVER 7500 trees!

DEADLY VOLCANIC ERUPTION DISPLACES THOUSANDS IN GUATEMALA

Guatemala has been left reeling by the most violent volcanic eruption in 44 years.

The Fuego volcano spewed lava, ash, rocks and deadly hot gas onto hillside villages, killing at least 65 people. More than 3,000 people have been forced to flee their homes, while the entire community of El Rodeo is said to be buried.

A ShelterBox Team is On the Way and Working with Local Rotarian Leaders.

ShelterBox has aid pre-positioned in Guatemala and Panama and we are sending an assessment team including longtime Rotarian Jeff Deatherage and ShelterBox Rotary Liaison Tim Hedges to see how we might be able to help families who’ve lost everything in the most devastating volcanic eruption in Guatemala since 1974.

We are in contact with local Rotarian leadership in Guatemala to understand whether and how we can help. ShelterBox has deployed to Guatemala on four previous occasions. The first response was a flood in 2005, then another flood and a tropical storm in 2010, and an earthquake in 2012.

    How You Can Help

Any donation you can give today will help families in desperate need. We need your support now to reach more families without shelter. At any given time, 365 days a year, ShelterBox Response Teams are on the ground, supporting families to recover after disaster and conflict all over the world. Rotary is with us every step of the way.

Thank you – your support will help us change lives.

We will keep you posted as the response evolves. For more information click here.

LEADER IN ME FINDLAY/HANCOCK SCHOOL FUNDING

Findlay Rotary Club Youth Committee has received multiple requests falling under the same umbrella. Findlay City and Hancock County Schools have implemented Franklin Covey’s “The Leader in Me” program which utilizes content from “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” to instill habits to youth inside school districts. The program has been implemented in over 3000 schools in 50 countries.

Given the limited resources of our committee and the large number of requests we are trying to fill for “at-risk” youth, we are asking that District 6600 consider our grant request. To date 3 of the grant requests that have been sent to our youth committee have involved various projects in Hancock County that have been inspired by “The Leader in Me” initiative.

The requests total $4300 as follows:

$1000 toward the purchase of books for “DEAR” (Drop Everything and Read) an initiative where the whole school would stop for 20 minutes of reading. This funding would
