    WHO’S WHO IN DISTRICT 42

"H.A.L.T. - Hungry Angry Lonely Tired"

One of the things we get in recovery is a "spiritual toolkit" that contains

new ways of thinking about and dealing with life. Before recovery so

many situations and people used to baffle me, and I was ill prepared to

deal with them and the emotions they brought up in me. My lack of

coping skills was fully revealed once I put down my old solutions of a

    drink or a drug.

The good news is that the 12 steps provide me with all the tools I need

to deal with life on life's terms. One of my favorites is "HALT." I was

taught early on that if I was feeling anxious, worried, angry or out of

sorts in anyway then there was a good chance I hadn't taken care of my-

self. I was to "HALT" and ask myself: "Am I Hungry, Angry, Lonely or

Tired?" If so, then it was my job to stop and attend to these first.

What a wonderful tool this has been for me. I have learned that it is my

job (and within my power) to take care of myself, and I have learned

how to self soothe. And once I am feeling centered, then the outside

stuff is much easier to sort through and deal with. It's amazing how

often I rely on my spiritual toolkit today, and how it's become second

nature to HALT when something is bothering me. Today my solutions

start on the inside and work their way out.

few institutions , of which Surrey Pretrial is my weekly obligation. I re-

how a higher power works in their live . To sponsor them and guide

them in their recovery. They need You , are You ready ?

    Concept 8

The Trustees of the General Service Board act in two primary capacities: (a) With respect to the larger matters of over-all policy and finance, they are the principal plan-ners and administrators. They and their primary committees directly manage these affairs. (b) But with respect to our separately incorporated and constantly active ser-vices, the relation of the Trustees is mainly that of full stock ownership and of custodial oversight which they exercise through their ability to elect all directors of these enti-ties.

Our board of Trustees simply cannot directly manage all of the detailed affairs of Alcoholics Anonymous. As such, with oversight from the Board of Trustees, AA World Services and Grapevine are able and empowered to provide those services. This relationship is a common corporate business model, and it was with foresight and respect that the AA World Service relationships were created. It has worked for AA since 1955. Concept 8 is very important in confirming this arrangement.

So what’s happening in District 42?

“District 42 Family and Friends Picncic” 15 September 2018 Bear Creek Park

This will be the 5th year of our district picnic. A fun and relaxing day for all. This is a day for friends and family of our members to join together and relax in the park together. Rain or shine, we always seem to have a large turnout. The fellowship is strong in District 42.

The event is self-supporting, contributions are welcome. Bring a salad for the pot-luck! The BBQ offerings are priced to only cover the cost.

Volunteers are always able to find a way to help out. Watch for sign-up sheets at your home group, check the contacts on the flyer in this newsletter, or just ask your GSR.

    Area 79 July Quarterly

Live from Prince George, BC! District 42 is represented at the Quarterly by 8 GSRs, 3 Alternate GSRs, your Alternate DCM, your DCM, our Archives Chair and 5 guests.

Total attendance at the Quarterly is 210, made up of the Area 79 Committee – 13 , DCMs - 34, Alt-DCMs - 3, GSRs - 80, Alt-GSRs - 4, and guests - 76. We started meetings on Fri-day evening and will wrap-up with preparation of Motions for the October Voting Assembly to be held in Vernon this year. Sharing sessions and reports on the business of Area 79 fill the weekend. Our guest speaker on Saturday night was our Area 79 Delegate, Jade F-H, delivering her Delegate Report on the General Service Conference in New York in April. AA is flourishing in Area 79, 12th step work in service is alive and well. I encourage every AA member to look for an opportunity to attend one of these assemblies, you may find a new aspect of sobriety in AA that you never knew. Watch for July 2019, as District 42, 37, and 43 team up yet again to host the Quarterly in Langley, BC.

District 42 Elections 23 September at the EDIC

Keep an eye on the newsletter for on-going announcements and more details. District 42 is alive and kicking because of the active involvement of our membership. Wouldn’t you like to get involved? You will not regret a moment of giving in service to AA. Take the plunge, make a commitment. It is by giving back that we find solid sobriety. As Bill W said, “A perpetual miracle – with no effort or responsibility on our part – simply isn’t in the cards. We all understand that the price of both personal and group survival is will-ingness and sacrifice, vigilance and work.” And what a bonus when work can be joyful.

A.A. members, please feel free to attend any of our monthly District GSR meetings to observe the goings-on. Normally meetings are the 4th Sunday of the month, always at 9:30am at the EDIC. I am always here to serve our GSRs and our fellowship, [email protected].

Sharing our experience, strength and hope with each other in fellowship. A happy and sober August to all.

    District 42 Rocks!

    Yours in Loving Service,

    Dave
