At our Founder’s Day Luncheon Bill
will be talking about Dealing with Heavy Weather as well as sharing many stories of his sailing career.
Founders Day Speaker: Bill BiewengaBill Biewenga has accumulated over 400,000 sea miles including 41 transatlantic crossings, several TransPacs, numerous sailing speed records, deliveries and races as well as onboard participation in four round the world races. He has worked as skipper, navigator, weather analyst/router, watch captain, helmsman, deck hand, and project manager.
Bill has published over 450 magazine articles and numerous photographs in more than 20 magazines worldwide since September 1989. He helped with the re-write for the weather routing chapter in Nathaniel Bowditch’s, “The American Practical
Navigator”, 2002 edition, an effort that was under the auspices of the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA). Also ashore, he works as a private routing consultant for boats worldwide, including but not limited to the Atlantic and Pacific. Vessels include both multi-hulls and monohulls doing speed record attempts, races, deliveries and cruises. Currently he’s an independent Marine Consultant, often working in
conjunction with Commanders' Weather Corporation. In 2003 Bill completed his first book and CD, “Weather for Sailors”. and later an additional CD, "The Weather Routing Wizard". Continuing in this field he has presented numerous weather routing seminars including events held at the New York Yacht Club, San Francisco Yacht Club, U.S. Naval Academy and elsewhere.
