Milwaukee Brewers / Chicago Cubs Game

Saturday April 6, 2019

District 1 D is planning a trip to Miller Park for a Brewers versus Cubs game on Saturday April 6, 2019. This is a Saturday night game starting at 6:10. Departure would be from the Center for Sight and Hearing’s parking lot at approximately 3:00 p.m. The cost for this excursion “at this time” is approximately $90.00 however, while the schedule is out for the 2019 season, the ticket price has not been set yet which also depends on where we want to be seated. The quoted price in this article is based on this year’s games sitting along the third baseline. When the date is confirmed with Milwaukee Brewers we also have to pay up front to secure our spot. Confirmations cannot be made until mid-December 2018. HOWEVER, it is VERY im-portant we get a head count for those interested in participating in this outing. The trip is open to Lions and their friends – they do NOT need to be a Lion to go. If we are unable to fill a bus, then the game will be advertised publicly. Please respond to Paul Lindstrom at 815 738 2761 or email him at [email protected] for questions or to sign up. If you wish to indicate where you would like to be seated do that as well with no guarantees. Those interested need to respond back with their count by Novem-ber 1, 2018 to help with making arrangements. You will be contacted after that for money. Send no money now.

Leader Dogs for the Blind Trip

Friday February 1, 2019

A trip to Leader Dogs for the Blind is being put together for February 1, 2019. There is not an open date with Leader Dog that doesn’t conflict with something in our District this fall so we are having to look into early next Spring. We would be leaving January 31, Thursday for a February 1 tour. This is a two day trip total, with Thursday the trip to Troy Michigan, an overnight, and tour of Leader Dog on Friday and returning yet that day. The last tour was in October of 2016 with a cost of $320.00 per couple and $200.00 per single. I’m still working on pricing with a hotel and already know the VanGalder price has gone up a couple hundred dollars. I will have a complete price for the trip in the December Newsletter. The MOST IMPORTANT thing at this time is for YOU to check your schedule and see if the date will work for you. We would be leaving Leaf River around 6:15 Thursday morning and arrive back the next evening around 9:00, if all goes well. Your additional cost would be your meal during travel times out and back. We eat at Cracker Barrel going to Leader Dog and at a Bob Evans on the return trip. A second pickup point in Rochelle is possible if enough interest is shown. If there is enough interest to book this trip money would be due by January 4, 2019. Again, check your schedule and let me know as soon as you can but by December 15, 2018. The cost is based on double occupancy in the rooms but rooms can handle up to four people if some want to room together. That can significantly cut your cost. The trip is open to Lions and their friends – they do NOT need to be a Lion to go. If we are unable to fill a bus, then the trip will be advertised publicly. Please respond to Paul Lindstrom at 815 738 2761 or email him at [email protected]. Those in-terested need to respond back with their count by December 15, 2018 for arrangements to be finalized. You will be contacted after that for money. Send no money now. For those Lions that have said in the past, “I’m planting corn then”, I’m making hay then”, “Can’t go now I’ll be picking corn”. Now I suppose this date conflicts with your time in Florida!!! If it’s truly something you would like to see, you just need to commit and make the time work.

Ice Hogs Game Lions Night

March 23, 2019

Mark your calendars for next year’s Lions Night at the Ice Hogs for Saturday Night March 23, 2019. Game time will be 6:05 that evening and they play the Milwaukee Admirals. Tickets will be the same as last year at $15.00 per person with our District receiving $5.00 for each ticket sold. If your club wants advanced tickets to have for selling please let me know and I’ll get them out to you as soon as I can. Advanced tickets are not necessary but some like to present the buyer with “proof” of their purchase. I know it seems early, but get your responses back to me as soon as you can for names and head count. Again, all I need is the NAME of the person that will be picking up the tickets and how many tickets they need. Money is not needed at this time but will need to be paid by March 1, 2019. This has always proven to be a fun night for those that attend whether you are a hockey fan or not. It’s just a great Lions social event! (and it even makes some money for our District)

For your questions or ticket needs contact Paul at 815 738 2761 or email me at [email protected]. Your timely response and cooperation is greatly appre-ciated. Let’s have another big Lions turnout this year!

Happy Thanksgiving! Nathan, a young boy, after hearing the story of Thanksgiving and how the Indians and the Pilgrims sat down together, climbed up into his father's lap and said, 'Daddy, did you know that if we were Indians, you would be a brave and Mom would be a squawk?' 'That is the best description of your mother I have ever heard, Nathan', replied his daddy as he ducked.

Jolene was only 8 years old and lived with family in the country with her parents and brother. Consequent-ly they did not often have visitors from the city. One day Jolene's mother said that father was bringing two guests home for Thanksgiving supper.

After they had enjoyed the turkey, Jolene went to the kitchen to help her mother, and proudly brought in the first piece of pumpkin pie and gave it to her father. He then passed the plate to a guest. When Jolene came in with the second piece and gave it to his father, he again gave it to a guest. This was too much for Little Jolene, who blurted out, 'It's no use, Daddy. The pieces are all the same size.'

Club Informational Items 1. Clubs that end a fiscal year with a net gain can earn the Membership Satisfac-tion Award banner patch in two ways: Ninety percent of the club members at the beginning of the fiscal year (July 1)

remain in the club at the end of the fiscal year (June 30). Death and transfers are excluded.

Reverse membership losses. Clubs that had net membership losses the previous two years, but attain a “zero” net loss in the program year ending June 30, also receive the award. 2. Beware of a Survey that will be going out in the newsletter and on our web-site and FB page? All 2017-18 Officers to be on the watch for it in their email. The reason for this survey is that at the recent Board Meeting, LCI decid-ed to focus on Clubs and have their input more on driving the organization. This survey is a start to get that input. 3. Wanted: Gently used, hard sided glass cases that flip open horizontaly. Please contact VDG Richard or DG Barb to arrange pick up.
