    studies performed in the Ramjet and Laser Aerodynamics Division. The

    study was crn.dyted by Lieutenant Jerry L. Ross. The work was perfomed

    under Project 3012, "Ramjet Technology", Task 301211, "Ramjet Design and

    Assessment", Work Uni.t Number 30121102, during the period June 1973 to

    ABSrRACr

    This report summarizes a study oondwted to standardize the fuel

    perfcoriane data used in the Ramjet and Laser Aerodynamics Division

    of the Air Force Aero Propulsion Laboratory. The NASA One-Dimensional

    Equilibrium (ODE) thexchnemica comaputer program was used to generate

    the fuel oonbustion product properties contained in the tables and graphs

    in this report. Thermohdemical equilibrium data (molecular weight, specific

    heat ratio, and ideal temperature rise) is presented for JP-4: JP-5, JP-7,

    and RJ-5 coabusted in air at constant pressures of 1, 5, and 10 atmospheres,

    at fuel-to-air ratios from 0.025 to 0.10, and at total air temperatures from

    400 to 25000R. The conustion process was assumtd adiabatic and a constant

    fuel temperature of 298.151K was maintained. The fuel and air properties used

    in the caclations are presented.

    INTRODUCTION

    This report was prepared to standardize the fuel performance data used

    by the RaPmet and Laser Aerodynamics Division in conducting engine cycle

    analyses and performnce studies. The ISA One-Diensional Equilibrium (ODE)

    (References 1 and 2) thexmo~xemical computer program was used to generate

    the fuel combustion product properties contained in the tables and graphs

    in this report. Thermochemical equilibrium xcmbustion product properties

    are presented for JP-4, JP-5, JP-7, and RJ-5 coubusted in air at constant Ipressures of 1, 5, and 10 atmospheres, at fuel-to-air ratios from 0.025 to

    0.10, and at static air tempoeratures from 400 to 25000 R. The combustion

    process was adiabatic and a constant initial fuel temperature of 298.15°K

    was maintained.

    Table I contains a list of the combustion product properties presented

    in the Fuel Perforiance Data Tables and Figures. The ideal temperature rise,

    DT, is the temperature increase (OR) due to the combustion of the fuel and

    air to thermochemical equilibrium in an adiabatic process. The combustion

    gas temperature (OR) is obtained by adding the ideal temperature rise to the

    initial total air temperature, TO (OR). The molecular weight, MW, and the

    specific heat ratio, GAM, are calculated for the combustion products in

    thermahemical equilibrium at the stated conditions. The term SA*/SQRT TTO

    is defined in the ,equation below.

    This quantity was inc-luded in the data tabulations at the request of Division

    The fuel and air properties used in the thermochemical calculations are

    contained in Tables II and III. The properties used for JP-4 and JP-7 are the

    same as thcse used previously in the Ramjet and Laser Aerodynamics Division.

    The JP-5 fuel data was provided by Dr. Fred Billig (3) of Johns

  • Hopkins Uivesity/Applied Physics Labontory. The R-5 data was obtained

    fro Mr. eztert Lanxer of the Fuels and Lubrication Division in the Air

    Force Aero Propulsion laboratory. The air propexties used in the calcula-

    tions were generated using an appraimate model of equilibrium air developed

    by Hansen and Hodge (4). The accuracy of ttda model has been shown to be

    cmpletely acceptable over the pressure and temperature ranges treated in

    this study.

    The U. S. Standard Atnosphere (1962) data in Section II was generated

    from a curve fit computer program that is available at Wright-Patterson AFB.

  • It has been included for the cweiee of the fuel data users. The

    curve fit mcdel represents mean annual, mid-latitude, dry air cczrditions.

    The tabulated quatities, kTXr/M*A and Q/M2, provide a mans of rapidly

    calculating the mass flow rate (WDOT) and dynamic pressure (Q) by simply

    multiplying -he tabulated value by the selected value of the dencoinator,

    Mack number times area and Mach number squared respectively.
