before reaching out to Mrs. Shanker. Check the Heritage website, the new website, the google drive, ask a friend, THEN email or send a Remind text to Shanker. Try to reduce the number of emails by submitting your work through the google forms on the new website and uploading files to the google drive folder with your name on it. This week, I’d like you to look at the feedback I gave in the word file called “Teacher

Feedback – Your Name” that is in your turn in google drive folder. This is where I will write feedback on all assignment that I feel like you may need to hear a response. If it was perfect or easy, I may not write anything! Composer Worksheet: This week you will learn about Ludwig van Beethoven.

- Turn In: The best way to answer the questions is to go to the new website and type your answers directly into the google form.

o https://sites.google.com/view/hhschoir-vocalmusic - There are also videos on the new website of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony (last movement) “Ode

to Joy” as well as a short video about Beethoven and his compositions. Listen and enjoy! Practice Log:

§ Keep up the same 30 minutes per week Practice Log. § If you practice more than 30 minutes, you can log your extra time too. It’s nice to see you

singing more often. Notation Unit 3: Lesson 3 – Ledger Line Note Names

- There are two instructional videos on the new website. They will walk you through how the names of the notes are assigned and structured on the ledger lines. Please watch them and read through the lesson page and take notes. If you get stuck, please reach out for help.

o Here are the video links if you want to type it: o Treble Clef Ledger Lines: https://youtu.be/rBOcp1Ild7c o Bass Clef Ledger Lines: https://youtu.be/eNA0ifdVfZg

- You will need to complete the Review page 35 as well as Quiz 25 by physically writing on the page. Then take a picture or scan to turn in and upload them into your personal google drive turn in folder “P2 – Your Name”.

Sound Trap:

- Look at your feedback in the “Teacher Feedback” word doc in the google drive. If you completed your Will the Circle Be Unbroken recording assignment from week 3, you should see some written feedback on things to fix vocally or using the app to improve your recording. Here are a few common feedback responses:

Page 2: Distance Learning Instructions Period 2 – Women’s Chorus ... · § Find a place where you didn’t like your recording. From a starting breath to an ending breath place, split

o The microphone is picking up extra noise or crackles from air or something to do with your device. Are you holding a phone with your hand touching the microphone area? Is there a breeze? Is there a fan on?

o It seems like you are singing just slightly after the track the whole time or most of the time. There may be a technology reason or a human reason for this. Perhaps the tech is not recording in real time to the app. You may need to look up HELP info on Sound Trap about your exact device that you are using and see if there are any software updates needed. If it is human error, then as you sing you need to anticipate the next phrase and breath in tempo so you don’t constantly echo the recording.

- This week, I’d like you to tweak and edit your Will the Circle project in the following ways: o Add a second vocal track.

§ Let’s say there is a section in the music that you know you messed up. Instead of trying to record the whole thing in one take, you can record it in smaller chunks allowing you to be more accurate.

§ To add a second vocal track look at the bottom left of the screen and click the plus sign where it says “Add New Track”. Click the first option “Voice & Microphones”. It will show you a lower pop up window area that has details and settings for the track. Immediately turn the REVERB all the way to the left. (Click the center of the Reverb button and drag down). Then hit the X on the left to close this pop-up window area.

o Learn how to split tracks. § Click on the colorful recorded track of your voice. Move the cursor purple line

by dragging the purple triangle at the top to the place where you want to divide your track into two segments.

§ Under “EDIT” is “Split Region”. Choose this and your colorful track will now be in two segments

§ This is extremely useful because you can then delete a section with a bad note/rhythm or drag the segment left/right to get it to line up better with the learning track.

§ Zoom in to your project to see the recording time widen so a second is literally wider in the screen. This will allow for more precise dragging left/right.

§ Find a place where you didn’t like your recording. From a starting breath to an ending breath place, split the track and delete the bad section.

o Re-record the segment you deleted by recording in the new track line that you added. § You will need to click the track on the left so there is a purple bar on the far left

of the track showing which one has been selected. § Make sure you mute/solo the instruments so you hear what you need to as you

record. I recommend leaving your first vocal recording track on to help you match sound as you record.

§ Move the purple cursor line by dragging the purple triangle at the top to where you want the recording to start. When you hit record, it will give you two measures of music before the recording begins.

§ Sing with the music before the recording starts to make a more seamless sound and to lock in to the tempo and breathing.

Page 3: Distance Learning Instructions Period 2 – Women’s Chorus ... · § Find a place where you didn’t like your recording. From a starting breath to an ending breath place, split

§ Stop recording when you have the made it to the point where your first track starts singing again. (after the deleted section is over). It’s important to sing a few words into the next phrase before hit stop or you will vocally collapse or cut short the last word/note and it won’t sound good.

§ Then trim you recording to get rid of the extra at the start and end so you have a seamless vocal line from one track to the new one and back.

§ SAVE YOUR PROJECT o Write a response to this process.

§ A google form is on the new website where you can write a short paragraph about how this went for you. Did it work? Did you mess up and have to hit undo? Did it make your recording better? Are there new problems you have discovered? Did you try looking up more help in the app?
