its need and importance in present context for recurrent

capacity building of teachers and other functionaries

associated with training of teachers, learning through

collaboration using wiki tool, developing training material

for teacher training through mutual cooperation and

collaboration. The participants were oriented on various

aspects like; page creation, inserting images, and internal

and external links wherever required. The procedure for

uploading media file i.e. pdf, flash, youtube, video was

also explained.

It is observed that the state has taken initiative and

shown keen interest in developing training modules

through wiki. Possibilities can be explored in future for

taking this orientation programme for the functionaries

working at different district and block levels.

Dr. Hema Pant and Dr. Nisha Signh developed aquestionnaire and conducted a feedback study tostudy the effectiveness of the programme. The

questionnaire comprised of 18 questions, of which 15

were closed questions with alternatives arranged on a

five-point scale. 3 questions at the end were open ended.

The responses were analyzed in simple percentages and

reported that majority of the respondents are generally

satisfied with the conduct of the wiki workshop. Most of

them are happy with the personal help provided during

hands on sessions and satisfied with the instructional

strategies used by the resource persons. Almost 50% -60 % are agreeable to the concept of working in groups

and consider group learning as an effective strategy for

academic interaction and useful exchange of knowledge

and information. They find the WIKI technology useful

for evolving a sustainable training system for teachers.

20% have expressed dissatisfaction with infrastructural

provisions, like computer laboratory, seating facility and

internet connectivity. 60% are undecided or neutral on

this issue.

The second part of the questionnaire was to sought

feedback from the participants about the extent of

development of wiki skills. 70% of the respondents can

create and edit wiki pages and 40% can upload graphics.

60% have expressed the confidence to collaborate through

the wiki discussion pages. By and large 20% to 56% can

perform the wiki functions satisfactorily. The percentage

of respondents who can perform the wiki functions to

some extent and are not so confident, ranges from 10%

to 25%.

On the basis of the analysis of last part of the

questionnaire it is noticed that the participants expressed

the view that they will orient the DIET faculty and the

BRCC and CRCC and other teachers in the use of the

training modules for the purpose of teacher training

under SSA. They will start by training at least three

persons at the Block level. Subsequently they will work

on the training module to contextualize it and use it for

better classroom transactions. A common difficulty voiced

by a majority of respondents for working in online mode

at their workplace was the lack of adequate infrastructure

and internet connectivity. They also expressed the need

for a longer duration of the training programme with

greater number of practice sessions. The regular office

workload was one of the deterrents for working on the

online development of training module through

collaborative mode. Some participants desired more

communication with the resource persons during the

sessions.

The workshop generated good enthusiasm among the

participants. Due to severe time constraints, the session

on dubbing for audio/video sharing across two languages

could not be conducted. More practice sessions are

required. Computer laboratory was not adequately

equipped. Each computer did not have a dedicated internet

connection and the internet facility was thus slow. Some

participants were not well versed with computer usage.

Seating arrangement was organized in two laboratories.

In spite of the difficulties the participants were

enthusiastic about the collaborative approach for online

development of training modules though usage of WIKI.

The foremost need is to provide infrastructure like

computer labs and the net connectivity with adequate

speed. The duration of the training workshop should be

enhanced to at least five to seven days. A dedicated

computer at DIET level should be provided to enable the

master trainers to practice and sharpen their wiki skills.

For this the SPO-SSA may identify a computer laboratory

in the city. Also regular training in computer and wiki

skills as a follow up should be provided to help with the

continuous skill development. Workload at the workplace

should be readjusted to enable them to spare time for

work on the online training modules. The SPO- SSA, H.

P. may organize similar workshops at the district levels

using the master trainers and also collaborate with DEP-

SSA, IGNOU, depending on their needs.

The collaborative learning process enables continuous

development of individuals through a mechanism of

sharing knowledge and experiences. A collaborative tool

like the WIKI is particularly relevant in the context of

capacity building of teachers and teacher educators.

DEP-SSA can harness the skills and expertise of the

enormous resource pool of teacher educators

collaboratively through the wiki. Once trained, the

resource group can continuously add content to the wiki

and also train teachers to use the tool in the regular

classroom teaching and learning process.
