WHAT IS DISCUS?

Discus is an actual test of athletics. In the discus

the intention is throwing a circular heavy object

called disk as far as possible.

Page 3: Discus

The disk is thrown from a circular base of 2.50

metres of diameter and the disk must land in an

angle sector of 34º.

Page 4: Discus

For men the disk has a diameter of 22cm and a

weight of 2 kg . It must be thrown with a hand.

Page 5: Discus

For women the disk has a diameter of 18 cm and a

weight of 1kg and it must be thrown with only a

hand

Page 6: Discus

THROWING RULES

During the prelims, each contestant is allowed three

throws.

Depending on the competition, there may be a time

limit (such as 1 minute) within which the contestant

must make a throw upon entering the ring.

The top contestants advance from the prelims to

the finals, where they will be given three more

throws.

of 74 metres.

RECORDS For women Gabriele Reinsch from Alemania with a

record of 76.80 metres.
