Letter from the Superintendent
This month we will continue to work on bunkers adding sand and repairing the drains. We’ll also replace old fabric used to keep the weeds down. The new landscaping will be completed soon in front of the newly remodeled #5 bathroom. We’ll soon be starting work on #12 fairway using a new grass that should work well in the peat soil in that area. The Advisory Board suggested adding additional walking paths. We have added 4 new ones for your use. We are always open to your suggestions to improve the course.

Recent Holes in OneKen Smith aced #2 on 5/6 playing with Mr. Mazenko and Mr. Martin. He played from 140 yards and the magic club was an 11 wood. An 11 wood!! I had one of those once and I hit it so high I could catch it after I hit it. Nice shot Ken!
Corey Houston, who makes more birdies in one round than most of us make in a month, had and ace on #14 5/15 from 162 yards. No info on club selection but with his skills it could be anything from wedge to hybrid. He was playing with Mr.
Musso, Varndell, and Colton. Outstanding!

Exclusive Reciprocal Golf ProgramWe are proud to announce that we have created a new reciprocal program for our golf members that we think will add additional value to your membership. We are calling this our Exclusive Reciprocal Golf Program. A couple of months ago, we approached a select group of private clubs and proposed a partnership with those club’s to create an agreement that would allow our members to play golf at these private clubs at a guest fee rate that is significantly lower than the typical rates normally charged for this privilege. The rate that has been agreed upon is $25 per player. Those who have so far joined this partnership are:
Oakhurst Country ClubBrookside Country Club
Woodbridge Country ClubSpring Creek Golf and Country Club
We will continue to make efforts to expand this partnership. Each club will set their own guidelines as to how many of these tee times will be allotted on a daily basis. The process for making these tee times will remain as it has been whereas our members who would like to play at the different clubs will be required to have one of our Golf Professional call and make the time for you. Any charges the member incurs while there may be put on your membership account here at DBGCC. Our restrictions here will be no more that four tee times per day and only non prime time.
We are very excited about this new program and we hope our members will be as well.
Thank You,Club Management

Sunset Golf Results
The most recent Sunset Golf saw a cold front disturb our evening but 52 brave souls survived to find a wonderful dinner waiting for them. Low Gross team of M/M Houston and M/M Lewandowski with a fine 31, and 3 teams tying, yes I said tying, for Low Net, the Donald’s and Lopes, the Watkins with the Millers, and the Ruiz’ with the Guinn’s, all shot net 22. I didn’t have the heart to break ties since they were all troopers to finish that evening. Last place money was M/M Frazier playing with M/M Surdez. Closest to pin honors to Cathy Houston and Ken Smith.

Team PlayIn the Central Valley League, Discovery Bay is in first place overall with 79 (ytd) points. Close second is Greenhorn with 71 (ytd) points. Congratulations team play participants for your efforts and excellent golf games. Kudos also goes to our Central Valley League Captain Raquel Myers.
The Diablo League held the team play at our course and the Discovery Bay team did great. They came in third in net…only 1 ½ points out of first place. They came in fourth place in gross. Everyone played wonderful and we thank you all for your efforts. A job well done also go to their Captains, Becky Frazier and Kay Smith.
March 31, 2009There were 34 players for our March Guest Day. While the announced play was two best net balls, Shirley Lopes tournament member in charge of the day, played an early April Fool’s Day joke on the participants. The first best net ball was thrown out and only the second best net ball counted. The team winners for the Member-Only Flight were Sondi Schnee, Debbie Martin, Debbie Ruiz and the Blind Draw, Lourdes Baird. Member-Guest Flight: 1st Place: Lourdes Baird, Kay Gschwend, Doris Bunnell and Verna Clark 2nd Place: Mary Watkins, Joanne Smith, Cheree Mendonsa, & Brenda Reisinger

April 14, 2009This was a mixed day: 30 ladies paid to play, 29 started, 24 finished: The culprit was the cold and windy weather. The game played was Points, Putts and Low Net. Frances Shipilov, tournament coordinator for the day, reports the following results:

April 21, 2009Since Discovery Bay hosted Team Play on the 28th, we had an early Guest Day. Shirley Lopes, Tournament Coordinator, invented an ingenious game to play. The intent of the game was to show how your total game score could be changed by being in the hazards. Unfortunately, the scoring method was unclear to many players. Due to the discrepancies, the Tournament Committee decided to throw all the score cards into a hat and Greg proceeded to pull out 4 cards a random. As Shirley reported: “a truly blind draw”. The winners are as follows: Cathy Fancey, Sharon Obazee& Brenda Reisinger Cam Donald, Shirley Lopes, Marian Rutherford and Frances Shipilov Donna Reich, Lynn Rice, Diane Sevim and Sonja Welin Janet Brown, Donna Johnson, Anne O’Prey and Sue Sharpe
Chip ins: Janet Brown on #4; Cathy Fancey on #7 and Debbie Martin on #10
Birdies: The birds were really flying today: Sonde Schnee on #2; Jackie Amthauer on #2 and #6; Lin Lenson, Mortie Rowe and Cathy Fancey on #7; Debbie Martin on #10; Pam Fischer and Judy Bartoli on #11; Pam Fischer on #12; Frances Shipilov on #14; Mortie Rowe on #15 and Lin Lenson on #17.
Closest to the Pin: Cathy Fancey for #7, Lin Lenson for #14, Pam Fischer #7 and Lynn Rice for #14. Since this was held the day before Earth Day, a lovely begonia plant was awarded to the team member whose birthday was the closest to April 22nd.
