Imagine it is night time. Cut out and decorate
the blind on page 79 for Donatello‛s window with
vertical, horizontal, criss-cross and curved lines. Cut
it out and paste it along the dotted lines.

Oil paint was invented by Dutch artists when
they mixed linseed oil and nut oil with
different pigments.
The Artist’s Palette
Donatello liked painting too and as you know, the three primary colours are red, blue and yellow.
We mix them together to make the secondary colours. Then, we make the tertiary colours when we mix the primary colours with secondary colours.
Look at the palette, experiment with your tempera paint and write your results.
Red and blue make violet. Red and yellow make orange. Yellow and blue make green.
Red and green make brown.

Donatello was one of the most original Italian sculptors. Some of his works look like Roman
statues.
Draw the missing part of the statue with your 2B pencil. Then model your own statue with your plasticine.

Donatello’s Little Pupil
This is Bruno, he lives in a village near the city and he comes to study
with me every day.
We can make statues from stone, marble or wood.
Tomorrow, you can practise with a small piece of marble. What do
you want to make?
Don‛t forget to come early in the morning. We have a lot of work to do.
I live with my family in a small cruck house
made of wood, mud and straw. We have holes for windows because glass is
expensive.
Hello! I‛m Donatello. I am from Florence in Italy. I am a sculptor and I like teaching young people
how to make sculptures.
