Origin of ARISE UNISDR• Sendai Framework - 24 pages – 33 times.• UNISDR charged with implementationrecognized importance of private sector,integrated all its pvivate sector initiatives, likePSAG, PSP and RISE under one umbrella –ARISE.• ARISE UNISDR has all continents, 140countries & multi national coys as Members.From Asia Japan, China, Iran and Philipines.• Mongolia in process, besides multi-nationals.

What Does ARISE Stand For• ARISE stands for UNISDR Private SectorAlliance for Disaster Resilient Societies.• ARISE is committed to implementation ofSendai Framework for DRR with emphasis toensure private sector investments and operationsare hazard resilient (risk sensitive) incollaboration with public sector.• ARISE is a UNISDR led network of privatesector entities, whose members voluntarilycommit to align with Sendai Framework.

What Does ARISE Stand For• ARISE Members share information, experience,activities and projects, while the level ofinvolvement and resources is at the discretion ofeach Member. Most activities are at local andregional level.• ARISE activities are built around 7 themes,namely, disaster risk management strategies,investment metrics, Benchmarking andStandards, Education & Training, Legal &Regulatory, Urban Risk Reduction & Resilience& Insurance.

ARISE Mission & Commitments• ARISE Mission is to create risk resilientsocieties by energizing the private sector incollaboration with the public sector and otherstake-holders ,to achieve the outcome and goal ofthe Sendai Framework.

Commitments of ARISE• Raise Awareness of Disaster Risks in Private Sector• Exercising influence in respective sphere of expertise.• Share knowledge and expertise of private sector.• Be a catalyst to generate innovation and collaboration.• Implement tangible projects and activities to achieve the targetsof the Sendai Framework.

ARISE Membership : Why FICCI• FICCI involved in DRR since 2003 and beforethat partner in providing Relief.

• FICCI conducted First Pvt Sector Conference :Global United Fund: Business InvestmentOpportunities on 02 Nov 2016 along withUNISDR, ARISE and NIDM as side sessionalong with 7th AMCDRR held in New Delhi.• Concept also propagated during GP at Cancan,Mexico, ARISE AGM at Manila and at 8thAMCDRR in Mongolia during 03-06 July 2018.

ARISE Membership: Why FICCI• Global United Fund for Resilient Risk Management(GUFRRM) is basically for promotion ofinnovations in DRR.• FICCI has expertise and experience of managinginternational projects and funds, one such exampleis Millennium Alliance, which FICCI is partneringwith GoI, USAID, UKAID, World Bank ICCOFoundation, WASH & Face book.• Due to multiple initiatives by FICCI on DRR,UNISDR recognized its potential & made it ARISEMember on 04 August 2017..

NEED FOR ARISE INDIA• After becoming member of ARISE UNISDR,

FICCI envisioned to promote the idea of DRR in Private Sector pan India and for that it volunteered to set up a network , ‘ARISE INDIA’, for which the negotiations are going on with UNISDR, Geneva. In principle it has been agreed though.

• As we know, natural disasters have wide impact on all sections of society & include both economic and non market damages (social & environmental)

• Due to increased investments in areas such as infrastructureglobally, economic impact of disasters increase every year.

STRENGTHENING ARISE FICCI• ARISE FICCI - High Powered Board led by Gen

Vij, Former Founder Vice Chairperson, NDMA.• Mr Niranka Saxena, Dy SG, FICCI elected

Member of UNISDR ARISE Board, Geneva.• For GP for DRR 2019, FICCI involved in three

sessions on, “National and Local DRR Strategies, Build Back Better and Global Risk Assessment.”

• At 8th AMCDRR at Ulanbaataar, FICCI organized Pvt Sector Meeting & Stakeholders Consultations with MNCC and UNISDR ARISE on 03 July 2018.

• Recommended funding for DRR through CSR.

POTENTIAL BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES • Corporate/Multinationals will be able to becomeMembers of ARISE INDIA and will get followingopportunities:• a) Attend 5-7 DRR programs organized by ARISEINDIA/ARISE UNISDR every year.• b) Members will be able to share info, experience,activities and projects , not only among ARISEINDIA network but with ARISE worldwide.• c) Business opportunities to scale innovationswhich come out of GUFRRM shall be first offeredto ARISE INDIA Members.

WORK UNDERTAKEN/IN PROCESS1. Conduct special DRM Programs for Industries to hone their

skills and preparedness – 34 organized, more in pipeline.

2. Regional level Conference on Resilient Infrastructure in private

sector (inviting States and neighboring countries).

3.Workshop on Policy Advocacy and Capacity Building Strategies

for Managing Complex Disasters in the face of Climate Change

4. National level competition on Innovations in DRR.

5. Use of Technology for finding solutions to DRR/ Management

– (Robotic, Virtual Intelligence, etc)

WORKS UNDERTAKEN/PLANNED 6. Promotion of R&D on DRR in Private Sector.

7. In Partner with IIRD, Shimla, for making villages SMART

(including DRR aspects) and opening business opportunities for

Private Sector in Rural Areas. Pilot Project (RIEV) launched in

3226 Panchyats of HP. In second phase Pan India,

8. Ganga River Institute - Path breaking Plasma Technology

9. In partnership with “Operation Resilience”, A national-level

‘Disaster Relief Portal’ that reaches out to 150+ Million people

online via popular outreach partners, to crowdsource aid for

response agencies, after a disaster. .
