Prepare to be self-sufficient for at least

three days by putting together an

emergency kit, including; non-perishable

food, flashlight, radio, medicine and etc.

Conduct practice drill.

Choose a friend or relative that

separated family members can call to

report their condition.

Learn first aid and CPR from your local Red Cross

Chapter.

Learn how to shut off gas, water, and electricity.

Check chimneys, roofs, wall and foundation for

stability.

Secure your water heater and major appliances.

your locality.

Keep informed of daily weather condition.

Inquire on designated evacuation areas for

families and livestock.

Keep a stock of food.

Keep a transistorized radio and flashlights.

Watch for rapidly rising waters.

Listen to your radio for emergency

instructions.

Evacuate to a safe area before access is cut

off by flood waters.

Turn off electricity at the main switch and

also lock your house.

Avoid areas subject to sudden

flooding.

Do not attempt to cross rivers of

flowing streams where water is

above the knee.

Beware of water-covered roads

and bridges.

left-over against contamination.

Drink clean or preferably boiled

water only.

have been checked by a competent

electrician.

If necessary, consult health authorities

for immunization requirements.

areas. Your presence might hamper rescue

Remain calm.

Contact the Fire Department.

Disconnect electrical equipment if

it is on fire and it is safe to do so.

Evacuate if you cannot extinguish

the fire.

Do not break windows.

Do not open a hot doors.

Clear the area around your house of

shrubs, brush, woodpiles and

combustible debris.

Rather than plant shrubs near your

house, consider landscaping alternatives

such as creating a rock garden.
