The Montana State University VOICE Center is committed to the belief that all people have the right to live free from violence and the fear of violence. The VOICE Center is a program of the Student Health Service that provides free and confidential support, advocacy, and referral services to survivors of rape, sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking. The VOICE Center emphasizes empowerment of the survivor and peer‐based services provided by trained Advocates. VOICE Center Advocates can discuss concerns; reporting options, temporary orders of protection, support groups, counseling, and medical resources. Child Care Assistance: The department offers "Best Beginnings" child‐care scholarships to qualified low‐income families who send children to licensed child‐care centers, registered group or family child‐care homes, or legally unregistered child‐care providers. Scholarships are available to low‐income working families and families who get cash assistance through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. Children's Health Insurance Plan (CHIP: CHIP is a low‐cost, private health insurance plan that provides coverage for eligible Montana children up to age 19. To be eligible, a child must:

Be a Montana resident and U.S. citizen or qualified alien. Have been without health insurance coverage for at least three months.

Be ineligible for Medicaid. Meet income guidelines. Have parents who do not work for the State of Montana.

Energy Assistance: The department offers two programs aimed at helping low‐income individuals reduce their heating costs. The Weatherization Program helps participants to improve the heating efficiency of their homes thus reducing their energy consumption. The Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) pays part of winter energy bills for eligible people. Most utilities offer discounts to LIEAP recipients. Medicaid Montana Medicaid is a joint federal‐state program that pays for a broad range of medically necessary health care and long‐term care for eligible low‐income Montanans. Applicants must be Montana residents and U.S. citizens (or qualified non‐citizen), and must fall into one of the following groups:

Parents or other related adults with dependent children under age 19 Children Pregnant women Women diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer or pre‐cancer People aged 65 or older People who are blind or disabled (using Social Security criteria)

Medicaid recipients receive either full or basic Medicaid coverage based on which eligibility group they fall into. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP): The program mission is to provide supplemental food assistance to low income people and improve the nutrition, health, and well being of SNAP recipients. The program was previously known as the Food Stamp Program. Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF): TANF provides temporary financial assistance to needy families. A household may receive TANF benefits for no more than 60 months. Those who may be eligible for TANF benefits are:

Minor children. Certain relatives with whom minor children are living, including siblings. Women in their last trimester of pregnancy who have no other eligible children. Refugees with minor dependent children.

WIC: The goal of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is to give children the best possible start in life by ensuring that they get proper nutrition both in utero and during their preschool years. The program provides nutritious foods, such as iron‐fortified cereal, milk, eggs, peanut butter, and dried beans, as well as formula for mothers who choose not to breastfeed. It also provides nutrition education to improve eating behavior. To qualify for WIC, applicants must be either:

Family Promise of Gallatin Valley in Montana is the only non‐profit network of diverse faith organizations working together to help Gallatin Valley’s homeless families with children. Each congregation provides shelter and meals, while each family is assisted by their professional social workers in finding and implementing lasting solutions to their unique situation. Based on a national program, FPGV is over 80% successful in getting families into stable housing and effective employment.

About four to six times a year, for one week at a time, Host Congregations supported by volunteers from Partner Congregations provide overnight lodging, meals (supper, breakfast, and brown‐bag lunch), and hospitality. Hosting rotates among the eight to thirteen Host Congregations in the Network, that provide lodging for three to four families (up to 12 individuals) from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. the next morning.

Family Center at Canterbury House Each day from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., guests use the Family Center at Canterbury House on South Tracy Avenue for pre‐school children, receive counseling from the Director, seek employment, and arrange appointments to implement the program. Many guests are employed and leave to go to work during the day. During the school year, children leave the center during the day to attend school. The Family Center provides guests with a mailing address and a home base from which to conduct their housing search. The Executive/Network Director’s office is at the Family Center.

Transportation If needed, FPGV transports guests to and from the Family Center and the current Host Congregation’s facilities, along with the guests’ luggage and the support materials, such as beds and linens.

Gallatin City County Health Department provides home visitation for support and education to high‐risk pregnant women and their children up to age 5 by public health nurses and a social worker. Two lactation consultants are on staff for breastfeeding support and education. It also provides routine childhood vaccinations for children ages 1‐18 years for a donation of $15 per vaccine given. No child is denied service for immunizations due to inability to pay. It has a full‐service international Travel Clinic, providing consultation, vaccination and education. Communicable disease investigation and education as well as school nursing for area rural schools are also provided.
