Tom Oliver has practiced in the transportation arena for over 20 years, representing transportation companies in all phases of litigation. He focuses over two-thirdsof his practice to the defense of motor carriers in both court and regulatory systems. Tom primarily handles litigation in the state and federal courts of Alabama,but has routinely advised motor carriers and their insurers in jurisdictions throughout the United States. He has also served as oversight counsel for cases pend-ing in other jurisdictions. Tom serves as the Chair of Carr Allison’s Transportation Practice Group and has previously served as Chair of the USLAW TransportationPractice Group. He has given seminars to national organizations such as the American Trucking Association (ATA), RIMS, and USLAW. I initially started doing transportation defense work in 1989. Since then, I have devoted between 75-90% of my practice to defense of Transportation companiesand their drivers. I have tried 12 transportation cases to verdict. Some of these cases involved wrongful death, serious injury, including brain injury. I am also aFellow in the American College of Trial Attorneys. I have spoken extensively at seminars or training sessions at which transportation was the sole topic. I have alsoput together post accident document retention and evidence preservation protocols for several major motor carriers. Finally, I have been responding to emergentserious accidents since the early 90s and have been on 24 hour call for my clients since then.

Chris began handling trucking cases in the early 1990s but has been focusing on defending motor carriers and their drivers in commercial motor vehicle accidentclaims for the past 15+ years. Over the years, Chris and his team have become involved in many cases from moments after the accidents occur by being availableon a 24 hour basis. These accidents range from minor collisions and injuries to serious, catastrophic losses. Chris and his team handle claims from the beginning,through the discovery process and through trial in State and Federal Courts in North Florida. Although his caseload fluxuates some, probably 60-70% of Chris’ case-load is handling commercial motor vehicle claims. Chris serves as Co-Chair of Carr Allison’s Transportation Practice Group and is in the leadership of the USLAWTransportation Practice Group. In order to stay current on transportation issues, Chris regularly attends industry events such as TIDA, DRI, the Arkansas TruckingConference and the ABA Megaconference. Spike has more than 25 years of civil trial defense experience with more than 200 jury trials. He heads up the West Palm Beach office of Wicker Smith and is in-volved in most serious trials including death and catastrophic injury cases. Though he has always been involved in trucking cases, over the past five years, it hasexpanded to approximately 60 % of his practice. He is an AV® Preeminent™ rating by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating awarded by that organization and amember of the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Among the cases he has tried, Spike represented a truck that turned in front of an oncoming motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle fractured most of the bonesin his body and claimed brain damage. Because of thorough discovery and surveillances, he was able to settle the case for 1 million after demands of many timesgreater. He also tried a bad burn case in which the plaintiff was killed and there was an allegation of a failure to warn of a disabled truck. Just prior to the verdict,the plaintiff’s attorney accepted the offer that was made at the beginning of litigation.

Jamie Lane is a partner in the firm’s Chicago office concentrating his practice in Commercial Transportation. He is an experienced trial attorney, having tried over100 trials to verdict in many Illinois venues including Cook, its surrounding counties and southern Illinois districts including Madison County. He has tried truck-ing cases in Federal Court and has successfully tried 8 figure demand cases to verdict. Recent verdicts include defeating multiple claims of catastrophic injuriesincluding death, those of a plaintiff with over $1.0 million in medical bills, claim for traumatic brain injury and extensive orthopedic injuries of a 24 year old bi-cyclist, as well as numerous claims of total disability, spoliation of evidence, and punitive damages against national transportation companies.

For over 20 years, Jamie has been concentrating his practice in the representation of motor carriers and their insurers in state and federal jurisdictions. In ad-dition to litigating matters at trial, he counsels them in all aspects of their business including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Ken has been a transportation lawyer for over 42 years. 100 percent of his practice is devoted to Commercial Transportation. His focus areas are cargo loss anddamage litigation, transportation contracts of all kinds, hazardous materials regulatory issues, and multimodal international (especially NAFTA cross-bordertransportation) matters. Ken chaired the tri-national committee that developed the North American Uniform Through Bill of Lading for use with international truck shipments be-tween Canada, United States, and Mexico. Later, as the lead member (for transportation issues) of the U.S. Delegation to the Organization of American States, 6thSpecialized Conference on Private International Law [CIDIP-VI], he negotiated with representatives of more than 30 countries in the Western Hemisphere and suc-ceeded in having a revised version of the North American Uniform Through Bill of Lading adopted for use throughout the hemisphere.

Ken served as a United States Conference Delegate to the United Nations Expert Group Meeting on Transport Law held in Vienna, Austria in September 2002.He is licensed in Missouri, Texas, and Colorado and has an “AV Preeminent” rating by Martindale-Hubbell. Neil A. Goldberg has defended transportation, products liability, pharmaceutical, medical device, toxic tort, and other complex catastrophic personal injury casesacross the United States for clients that include a number of New York Stock Exchange companies. He has handled litigation involving transportation — includ-ing commercial aviation, trucking, and automotive product liability — throughout his entire career and currently devotes 70 percent of his practice to such cases.

Neil’s most recent trial arose from the February 2009 crash of Colgan Flight 3407 that resulted in the deaths of 50 people. This was one of the very few trials in-volving a commercial aviation disaster to be conducted in the United States in the last 30 years. The final litigated matter, brought by the survivors of a decedentkilled in a home struck by the plane, proceeded to trial in September 2014. Following nine weeks of trial, a confidential, favorable resolution of the case wasreached.

Neil is the editor of and contributing author of seven books on the defense of complex personal injury cases. He is the co-editor-in-chief of Preparing For andTrying the Civil Lawsuit and Products Liability in New York: Strategy and Practice, published by the New York State Bar Association.
