2007/2008 Criminal Offence Declaration

Starting Monday May 14, 2007 The Human Resources Department launches the 4th Annual “iCOD” (Internet Criminal Offence Declaration) Process to all TCDSB Employees, under Ontario Regulation 521/01,

for the “2007/2008” School Year

The Board’s “iCOD”, Internet Criminal Offence Declaration website will be available for all employees to complete and submit their required offence declaration for the 2007/2008 school year. As a reminder to all employees, the Ontario Regulation 521/01 requires all school boards to collect offence declarations from all employees by each September 1. All employees are required to make an annual offence declaration. Failure to do so may result in suspension or termination of employment. The iCOD website is highly secure, private and confidential. Employees may access this website in the privacy of their homes, at their place of work or at a public library through any web browser that supports a minimum 128-bit encryption. The iCOD site will be available starting Monday May 14, 2007 through to August 31, 2007. However, we are asking all school based employees to complete their offence declaration by June 30, 2007. Employees may access iCOD through the following links: The iCOD website at https://icod.tcdsb.org Through the Board’s website home page at http://www.tcdsb.org under “Staff” page at http://www.tcdsb.org/staff Through the Board’s Intranet site at: http://intranet.tcdsb.org Should you need further assistance once you are on the iCOD website, you may contact Human Resources at: 416 222-8282, ext. 2999 or e-mail your concerns or questions to [email protected]. Tips to Note Before Logging On To iCOD: For those employees that do remember your iCOD password from last June’s offence declaration process, all you have to do is sign onto iCOD and complete this year’s 2007/08 offence declaration. For those employees that do not remember their “iCOD password” from last June’s offence declaration process, as well as any new employees that did not participate in the 2006/07 process, please refer to the upper right hand corner of your payslip for “iCOD registration information.” You will need to refer to this information when accessing iCOD to register and complete your declaration. Connect to : https://icod.tcdsb.org. You must register as a “new user”. Once you are in the “Registration for New User” screen, you will be asked to enter a password in a field called

“User Password”. This password does not have to be a TCDSB password that you may currently be using for other TCDSB applications. iCOD is a totally separate system, independent from any other TCDSB application. Create your own password for iCOD and privately document this number in your personal belongings.

An iCOD userid will be provided to you by the iCOD application once you have registered. Remember this userid; store it with your iCOD password that you created.

Once you have registered in iCOD, you must continue in the application with the “declaration process”. Frequently Asked Questions: For a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about the TCDSB iCOD process please click on the FAQ link on the http://icod.tcdsb.org home page or go directly to http://www.tcdsb.org/icoddocs/FAQ.htm to access TCDSB iCOD FAQs directly. Should anyone be uncertain if they have committed a “criminal” offence, please contact your personal legal counsel for further clarification. The Human Resources Department wishes to thank all employees for their cooperation and patience during this new process, initiated under Ontario Regulation 521/01.

The winner of the 2005-2006 award, Mr. Geoffrey Grant, was nominated by the parents of Holy Cross Catholic School. The new 23 Division, located at 5230 Finch Ave. W., just west of Kipling Ave., was christened by police officers, faith leaders and the greater community during a May 15 ceremony.

Chief Bill Blair said the officers at 23 Division have cultivated a great relationship with the community that will carry on in their new home. “This new police facility will be a community police station,” Chief Blair told the hundreds of people gathered at the official ceremonial, which was opened by

the St. Andrew’s Catholic Elementary School choir’s rendition of O Canada. “It will provide the officers of north Etobicoke a facility of which they can be proud,” the Chief said.

Chief Blair pointed out the former officers in the crowd, including former Chief David Boothby, who was unit commander of Etobicoke’s 2 District in 1985. Toronto Police Services Board chair Alok Mukherjee said 23 Division is the second example of the new generation of police facilities, following a similar blueprint to 43 Division, which opened last year.

“I hope this new building will provide a welcoming and hospitable place for our employees and our community,” Mukherjee said. “It’s a concrete example of our respect for the community.” The new police station features a large community room at the front of the station, where a reception was held to commemorate the official opening, and four soft interview rooms designed as a more welcoming space for witness and victim interviews.

The 56,000-square-foot facility is also the Service’s largest. Community Police Liaison Committee chair Donata Calitri-Bellus said she has been lobbying for a new facility for the 15 years she has lived in the division.

She is among many citizens ecstatic at its arrival, too. “We feel very welcome here,” said Calitri-Bellus, of the new station that has office space for the CPLC – a suggestion they made after being included in the design process. “Officers here truly understand what it means to engage the community. People feel like they are part of the process and coming to solutions.” For unit commander, Supt. Ron Taverner, the building is a great gift to officers who have soldiered through their daily duties in the cramped facility along Kipling Ave.

“We have space for things we never considered in the past and space for future growth,” said Taverner, of the new facility that has separate rooms for training, parades and added space for lockers and a weight room. Taverner also noted the division is easily accessible because of its location across from the Albion Mall. “Its location is community-friendly,” he said, adding that the new facility is just another feather in the cap of the neighbourhood. “It’s a wonderful community we have here and we have a lot to be proud of.”

BUILDING COMMUNITY: STUDENTS SUPPORT STUDENTS IN 5K FUN WALK The Angel Foundation for Learning 5K FUN WALK raises $20,000 to support vulnerable students in Toronto schools On Sunday, May 6, 2007, over 500 members from the TCDSB community stepped into spring for The Angel Foundation for Learning 5K FUN WALK raising $20,000 for vulnerable students. Two of Toronto’s finest students led the participants in the WALK. Christopher Tait (Mary Ward), Brittnee Habbib (Mary Ward), together with their co-leaders, Cassandra Campbell (Blessed Mother Teresa), Stuart Pritchard (Blessed Mother Teresa) and Nikolas Zboralski (Bishop Allen) are student mentors, leaders and have won a number of athletic achievements in track and field and gymnastics. Together, they put their best foot forward to demonstrate the spirit of community building. The Angel Foundation for Learning offers monetary assistance to students whose families are of limited financial means. Funds raised at the FUN WALK will be used to provide further support for the 42 Student Nutrition Programs administered by the Foundation in elementary and secondary Toronto Catholic District School Board schools. The Angel Foundation for Learning feeds over 9,000 students daily through breakfast, snack and lunch programs. The FUN WALK began with an opening liturgy at 10 a.m. followed by the walk at 11 a.m. Participants were treated to a barbecue lunch, gift bags, and fun activities including: face painting, The Goal is Fun mini hockey presented by the Toronto Marlies, Jam Van, musical entertainment, mascot DUKE the Dog and many prizes and draws. Thanks to the wonderful FUN WALK committee members who worked tirelessly to organize this fun-filled event. The Foundation would like to especially acknoweldge the following students, staff and volunteers for all of their assistance in ensuring the FUN WALK’s success: Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts students for filling the walk participant gift bags and face painting; The Student Grand Marshalls, Francis Libermann students; St. Patrick students Marcelina Lobalsamo, Maria Sanzo and the St. Francis Xavier students for “spicing up” the Fun Walk by growing herbs and selling them at the Walk (this group also made and sold jewellery and donated the proceeds to the Foundation); Stephen Carey, Ralph Peter and Father Michael Lehman for preparing and leading us through a beautiful mass Mary Anne O’Leary and the registration team; Sandra Montgomery, Josie Nespolo, Mary Eileen Donovan, Colette Frith and Liz Gabbott ; Ashleigh Molloy and the Emerald Express Band St. Francis Xavier Students and Mrs. Lobalsamo “spice up” the FUN WALK On Sunday May 6th 2007, The Angel Foundation for Learning hosted its annual FUN WALK. Year after year, Mrs. Lobalsamo has stepped up to pay tribute to our mandate of helping vulnerable TCDSB students. This year was no acception. Mrs. Lobalsmo, together with Maria Sanzo led their students in the ultimate display of generosity. Their class created beautiful jewellery pieces and planted herbs to sell at this year’s FUN WALK held at CEC. One hundred percent of the proceeds made from selling the jewellery and herbs at the FUN WALK were donated to The Angel Foundation for Learning. On behalf of the staff and Board of Directors of The Angel Foundation for Learning; and the students who benefit, we would like to extend our sincerest thanks to the wonderful students of St. Francis Xavier, Mrs. Lobalsmo and Maria Sanzo for demonstrating that compassion and generosity can really work to make a positive difference in the lives of needy

student. THANK YOU!

St. Francis Xavier Students planted herbs throughout the year to sell at the FUN WALK.
