New Formats &Considerations

“The assumption that animals are without rights andthe illusion that our treatment of them has no moral

significance is a positively outrageous example of Western crudity and barbarity. Universal compassion

is the only guarantee of morality.”

- ARTHUR SCHOPENHAUER, GERMAN PHILOSOPHER

This thesis presents the hypothesis that a co-equal relationship with other animal species will lead to a deeper understanding of the human condition, increased quality of living and new insights into the nature of empathy. Mahatma Gandhi believed, “One can measure the greatness and the moral progress of a nation by looking at how it treats its animals.” This approach could be an indication of positive human evolution - to recognize that other species have an inherent right to life, free from abuse and exploitation.
