OCTOBER, 2018 VOLUME. 4 ISSUE. 4
Dear Parent,
Greetings from DPS-Miyapur!
A child has a special way of adding joy to every day!
September was an eventful month with an eclectic mix of learning, fun, creativity and exciting
activities for the pre-primary and primary children and the first term examinations for the senior
classes, V, VI, VII and VIII. While the students of the senior classes focused on their examinations,
the primary and pre-primary students engaged themselves in various informative and entertaining
tasks.
The first event of the month was the colourful ‘Fancy Dress’ competition conducted by DPS-
Miyapur for the lower Kindergarten students on 4th September 2018. Rudolf Steiner, the founder of
Waldorf education, believed that imaginative play in early childhood is the key to creative thinking
during the adult years. When children engage in dress-up play, their imaginations are given free
reign. There is no limit to who, where, or what they can be. Children put in their best efforts to
make their character come alive with confidence as they showcased their innovative, imaginative
ideas and costumes. The competition was centred on the theme “nature. It was great fun to see
children dressed up as sun and the rainbow, clouds and trees, flowers and butterflies, mountain and
seas, peacocks and fish holding placards saying “save tree, save water, save life”. While others
came dressed as characters from mythology.
This competition had many powerful messages along with their energy packed performance. The

“All I really wanted to know, I learnt it in kindergarten” said by famous author Robert Fulghum.
Sorting and classification are the beginning concepts of children developing math skills. Recognizing
groups of objects requires logical thinking, understanding the relationship between the different
groups hones analytical skills. “The Minute to Win” competition based on the concept of sorting and
classifying of beads of different colours and shapes was conducted on 11th September, 2018 for Upper
Kindergarten at DPS Miyapur. In the prelims, children were allowed to set their own pattern. They
were also encouraged to help each other, when finished. They exhibited amazing skills like playing
fair, sharing, putting things back in place after using, not taking beads that were not theirs. The final
round of the competition was more challenging and thrilling. This contest was a play-way method to
reinforce exciting knowledge. It turned out as a great platform for learning rather than winning. The
winners were:
