QUALIFICATION
Melbourne Polytechnic is offering the TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training
in 2020 via a blended delivery model.
This qualification reflects the roles of experienced practitioners delivering training and assessment
services usually within Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) within the vocational education and
training (VET) sector. They may have a role in leading other trainers and assessors and in providing
mentoring or advice to new trainers or assessors as well as designing approaches to learning and
assessment strategies across a significant area within the RTO.
To attain the TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training you are required to
complete 10 units of competency (units). The units selected for this program are:

COURSE INFORMATION
PRE-REQUISITES There are no prescribed pathways into this qualification.
However, to best meet the demands of the program the preferred pathways for a learner considering
this qualification with Melbourne Polytechnic are as follows:
after achieving the TAE40110 or TAE40116 TAE Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and
vocational experience in training and assessment roles within an RTO or similar organisation where
the focus has been on competency based training, or
after achieving another relevant qualification and vocational experience in training and assessment
roles within an RTO or similar organisation where the focus has been on competency based
training and assessment, or
after demonstrating extensive vocational experience in training and assessment roles within an
RTO or similar organisation where the focus has been on competency based training and
assessment.
Should have access to workplace in order to provide evidence for
o at least 100 hours of training access and collect feedback from learners and peers
o at least 20 VET learners for 50 unit of competencies
SPECIAL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
To meet the demands of the course it is highly recommended that students have a highly
developed:
▪ command of written and spoken English
▪ communication, documentation and research skills
▪ computer access and skills for web use, word processing, presentation software and

ENROLMENT REQUIREMENTS
When enrolling, you are required to provide proof of citizenship/residency and age. Examples of
acceptable document are as follows:
▪ Copy of TAE40110 or TAE40116 TAE Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
▪ Australian passport
▪ Australian Birth Certificate
▪ Passport showing permanent residence
▪ Green Medicare card and driver’s licence
If you are applying for a concession (applicable courses only) we will need to be able to sight the

PATHWAYS After achieving TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training candidates may look at post
graduate studies in TESOL, LLN and / or other vocational specific areas

SKILLS RECOGNITION
Skills recognition is the overarching term given to the recognition of skills and knowledge gained
through formal and informal training gained by the applicant. It acknowledges previous learning
and current competence from a student’s relevant life, work experience, formal education and/or
professional development.
Skills Recognition must applied for prior to commencement of a course, so as unnecessary
training does not occur.

RESOURCES
All training and assessment resources will be provided by Melbourne Polytechnic and available on
the e-learning platform (Moodle).
Students are required to bring a USB storage device to all classes and have access to a computer
and the internet outside of class.
Students are also required to have access to video recording apparatus to video record
presentations and upload them to Moodle for assessment if required.
LIBRARIES
Melbourne Polytechnic has libraries located at each of its campuses - Collingwood, Epping,
Prahran, Fairfield, Heidelberg and Preston. Access to electronic resources, full text articles and e-
books complement these hard copy and audio-visual materials.
Computer access is available at all campus libraries. Printing, photocopying and scanning facilities
are also available.
CAR PARKING
Student parking is available at Preston campus.
TIMETABLE
All course enrolments will be confirmed one week prior to commencement. Each program is
dependent on the number of enrolled students. If there are insufficient paid enrolments, the
class will be cancelled and students will be notified one week prior to commencement
