● What are dikes used for? The main purpose of dikes are to prevent flooding of the countryside and to slow natural course changes in a waterway to provide reliable shipping lanes for maritime commerce over time; they also confine
the flow of the river, resulting in higher and faster water flow.

● Where are dikes usually located? They are ususally located near coast lines and they are very common to encounter when traveling alongside the Wadden Sea. They also tend to be connected to the sluices around there.

● Dikes and dams comparison:Dikes sort of serves the same purpose like the dams; they both ensure that the water doesn't flood the land. Unlike dams, dikes are typically built very close to the coast line.

● Wadden Sea dikes and Po River dikes comparisons:The Po River is subject to heavy flooding. Over half its length is controlled with argini, or dikes. The slope dove the valley decreases from 0.35% in the west to 0.14% in the east.
