Degree of digitization
Page 9
Sweden is lagging digitally behindSwedish teachers are not very digital. In Sweden only 13% among Swedish teachers use only or primarily digital teaching materials. In Denmark this number is 36%.
This gives a much more analogue market in Sweden compared to Denmark. Among swedish teachers it
is 65% that is primarily using analogue materials or no digital learning materials at all, whereas in Denmark this number is 27%.
Advantages for students
Page 10
Support students for the future and is more engaging41% of the teachers believe that digital teaching materials are motivating the students.
Furthermore digital materials prepare the students for the future skill requirements and the materials are more relevant to their daily lives.

● More motivated to take part in the lessons (41%)
● Better equipped for the skill requirements of the future (36%)
● Taught using topical materials that are more relevant to their daily lives (36%)
Advantages for teachers
Page 11
Actual and differentiated teachingNearly half (48%) of the teachers find digital teaching materials to be more updated than analogue materials. They also experience a better possibility to create varied lessons.
Furthermore they have better possibilities to adapt the lessons to the individual levels of the students.

● Content that isn't out of date (48%)
● Make it easier to create varied lessons (47%)
● Make it easier to adapt lessons to the level of individual students (36%)
Main barriers
Page 12
IT-infrastructure is the main barrier for using digital teaching materials47% of the teachers experience that unstable internet connection and insufficient IT-equipment are the highest barriers for using digital teaching materials in the classroom.
Then follows login problems (different accounts) and the price of digital teaching materials.
Top 3 barriers for using digital teaching materials
● IT-infrastructure (47%)Bad internet & insufficient equipment.
● Different login accounts (35%)Different login accounts make using digital teaching materials cumbersome.
● Price (28%)Schools can’t afford to invest in digital teaching materials.
Digital strategy
Page 13
Implementation47% indicate that they have a digital strategy (31% in Denmark). There is a gap in awareness between teachers and principals. 24% (42% in DK) of the teachers don’t know if the school have a digital strategy, only 3% of the principals are unaware of having a strategy or not.
Objectives with digital strategiesDigital strategy is mainly used to to accommodate academically strong and weak students and to improve knowledge sharing.
Why no digital strategy? The two main reasons for not having a digital strategy are “internal guidelines are used instead” (36%) and because they have no one to manage a digital strategy (26%)
Skills development and influence
Page 14
Significant gap between teachers and principals on influenceWhen deciding which digital teaching materials to purchase, teachers feels least involved.
The research also indicates that the gap between teachers and principals on influence on purchase has and will continue to increase in the future.
Skills developmentAmong teachers 70% of them have participated in skills development of using digital teaching materials, while 29% have not.
Among those having a digital strategy, 73% of them have participated, while it is 66% among those not having a digital strategy.
