The State of Telangana, with its innovative initiatives and programs, is at the forefront of the revolution in India and making massive strides in its administrative and citizen services delivery. Telangana, the youngest state in India, is carving a name for itself in India’s digital history with an array of consistent digital initiatives that are well in place and showing desired results.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad has played the host to Global Leaders of the Exhibition Industry as they attended IEIA Open Seminar 2018 at HITEX in May. The Open Seminar, through shedding light on the industry trends, challenges and opportunities, has once again highlighted the importance of coming together of the local, regional and global stakeholders for the growth of the industry. Business leaders and government representatives have used the opportunity to network, discuss potential partnerships and plan new initiatives for the industry.

We have more updates on these and what’s happening in Hyderabad and HITEX in the pages inside.

Digital technology has become an effective change agent in the society. Majority of the new breakthroughs we are seeing in our times are triggered by digital technologies, largely driven by data.

Every industrial revolution has changed the world immensely. We have come a long way from first revolution’s mechanical production driven by water and steam power, second revolution’s electrical energy and third revolution’s electronics and automation to the fourth revolution’s digital technology.

With Digital India campaign, India too has joined the digital revolution and is experiencing transformative changes in areas like e-payments, e-health, digital literacy, farming, financial inclusion, rural development, social benefits programs and much more. With innovative entrepreneurs and increased digital literacy, India has become a hotspot for digital innovation. India has 65 per cent of its population under 35 years old, with an opportunity to build an enormous digitally literate workforce.

We are living in a digital world and technology is changing everything in our lives: how we meet people, buy things, pay, travel, manage our finances or order food. Governments across the world are looking for ways to upgrade themselves – India and Telangana are no different.

Digital India is a campaign run by the Govt. of India to digitally empower the governance and the lives of the citizens. Three important elements of Digital India campaign are creation of digital infrastructure, increasing digital literacy and delivering services digitally all over the country. A report by IBM and Kalaari Capital reveals that India is banking on 850 million internet users and 90% smartphone penetration in next three to four years to achieve $1 trillion value from digital economy by 2025.

On the lines of the Digital India campaign, Govt. of Telangana has designed its ambitious and audacious Digital Telangana initiative in 2015 with primary objectives of creating digital literacy, enhancement of e-governance through MeeSeva services and e-Panchayats, identifying technology solutions for all government agencies to provide better services to the citizens, laying of optical fiber cable to each household, providing 4G services in the entire state and WiFi in major cities and towns.

Telangana has made significant progress in achieving its objectives in a short span of time. Currently, Telangana delivers G2C (government to customer) services to its citizens online through a network of about 4,500 MeeSeva centers and processes 1.5lakh G2C and C2G transactions per day, the highest by any state in India.

According to Coeus Age Consulting’s latest report Digital States of India – A Comparative Analysis, Telangana is one of the nine leading digital states of India and ranked No. 7 among the 29 states and seven union

driving inclusive transformation territories. The report is based on a holistic assessment of the 29 states and seven union territories using 109 key performance indicators across IT policy, infrastructure, and mission mode projects (MMPs).

Path breaking digital programs of Telangana include Hawk Eye, (ePolice), Mee Seva, Land Records, Bio-attendance (eMunicipality), ePDS, eAgriculture, eProcurement, ePanchayat, RTA mWallet (Road Transport), eHealth, eTreasury, Janahitha (Suryapet district), eOffice (Mahbubnagar district, TSSP Bn, CMDA) and eDPMS and @HMDA.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the 21st National Conference on E-governance held in Hyderabad, Sri K T Rama Rao, Minister of IT, Electronics and Communications said “e-governance is more than just electronic governance. It has to have 3E’s – Easy, Efficient and Effective. People have to accept it from their perspective, only then real e-governance can be achieved.”

To enhance digital literacy and skill development, the state government’s Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK) is partnered with National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) for

training and certification programs in digital technologies for human resources.

On the business front, the IT and software industry in the state is making strides in software production and exports. Telangana’s software exports in 2017 are valued at INR 93,422 crores with a growth rate of 15.66 % which is higher than the national average. With Hyderabad being the hub for IT and ITES companies, the state has identified five tier-II cities namely Karimnagar, Warangal, Khammam, Nizamabad and Mahbubnagar to develop new IT Parks for software companies and expand the industry.

The digital technology realm offers innovative solutions to various problems facing both public and private sectors while equipping the lives of people with connected services. With TS-iPass, the new simplified business licensing system, Telangana is now attracting the best of minds and teams to become entrepreneurs and provide new breakthroughs in multiple domains.

The State of Telangana with its Digital Telangana initiative has risen to the abounding opportunities and needs to continue to spear ahead with same impetus towards innovation and development.
