Progress with switchover • The switchover to digital TV is being measured using a ‘Digital Tracker'
to assess public awareness of digital switchover, household intention to
convert and actual conversion rates.
• Results from the fourth quarter 2010 – 95% of Australians are aware of
switchover and 77% are watching digital channels.
• In Regional Queensland 79% of the 506 000 households have
converted to digital (106 000 yet to convert).
• In Brisbane which is due to switch around mid 2013, 78% of the 1 114
000 households have converted to digital (245 000 yet to covert).

Issues for strata and property managers
• Master Antenna TV systems (MATV)
• Owners corporations are responsible for the antenna
systems in MDUs
• Potential problems with an antenna system: cabling and
signal reception, e.g. resulting from the ‘digital cliff’ effect
• Limitations on tenants’ ability to upgrade antenna
![Page 24: Digital Switchover in Australia - BCsystems · switchover and 77% are watching digital channels. • In Regional Queensland 79% of the 506 000 households have converted to digital](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062311/5f75e29574a57f3c6402d49a/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
Advice to all Strata and Property Managers
• Without appropriate attention some occupiers and tenants in MDUs could be left without TV after switchover
• Landlords and owner occupiers of MDUs need to collaborate to arrive at effective technical solutions
• There may be tax deductions for upgrades to rental property
• Digital readiness is a market expectation
• The Taskforce is working closely with property sector groups to share information and develop strategies for switchover

Government Assistance Assistance is available for people who need help getting
ready for digital TV.
The Australian Government recognises some people may find
it difficult to make the switch to digital TV. To address this
issue, two schemes have been developed.
The Household Assistance Scheme (HAS)
&
The Satellite Subsidy Scheme (SSS)
