About Installing the HASP Security Key (Dongle) and Device Driver

As a security measure, Toon Boom Digital Pro requires the installation of a security key. The HASP security key (also called a dongle) is a small piece of hardware that fits into your computer's USB port.

One of the benefits of using the HASP security key is that you can prevent unauthorized users from gaining access to Toon Boom Digital Pro while your computer is unattended. To provide this extra level of security, simply unplug the dongle from your computer at the end of each session and keep it in a safe place until next time you use the program.

A software driver must be installed for the security key to work properly.

When working in a network environment it does not matter which machine the network HASP key is set up on. That machine becomes the server and it broadcasts to all the other client stations on the network.

This document explains how to install the HASP security device in the following environments:

• Network Installation for Windows XP on page 7

• Network Installation for Windows Vista on page 18• Network Installation for Mac OS X on page 30

Once plugged in and installed you will be able to open Toon Boom Digital Pro.

Note:

You may have several MAC addresses. You must select the physical address. To identify the physical address, open a command prompt and enter the command ipconfig -all to display your Windows IP configuration. Your system’s physical address will be identified and displayed in the detailed list of parameters.

Network Installation for Windows XPNote:

Perform this installation only if the dongle is connected to a network.

A network environment occurs when the computer on which the Toon Boom software is installed is connected to a network, this means it is a server/client system. The network HASP key is set up locally on one station which becomes the license server that broadcasts it to all the other client stations on the network.

This is divided into the following parts:

• Windows XP Server Installation Procedure on page 7Install this on the license server.

• Windows XP Client Installation Procedure on page 13 If your client station is in a subnetwork or in a network which has more than one server you will perform this configuration to specify which license server the network HASP key is installed on.

Windows XP Server Installation ProcedureTo install the license and HASP security key (dongle) on a server machine, follow this procedure:

1. Place the Toon Boom Digital Pro CD in the computer.

7

Page 10: Digital Pro Network Installation Procedures

The dongle will light up if the HASP installation process is correct. If it does not light up try re-connecting it to the USB port, if this also fails you should contact Toon Boom Digital Pro support.

15. Click on Finish.

At this point you are required to install the license file into the system. To do this you must first copy the license.dat file you received by email from Toon Boom.

Windows XP Clients Installation Procedure for Multiple Dongle Servers In the case that you may have more than one dongle server on your network, it is necessary to be able to distinguish between them in order to use the correct dongle server for Toon Boom Digital Pro. To ensure that Digital Pro looks for the dongle on the proper server do the following on the client workstation:

1. Copy the nethasp.ini file fromC:\Program Files\Toon Boom Animation\Digital Pro\etc\hasp to C:\Program Files\Toon Boom Animation\Digital Pro\etc

Copying the file to this location allows you to edit it without changing the original one.

Open the nethasp.ini file using a text editor; Notepad is not recommended as it removes the formatting.

2. In the nethasp.ini file find the section titled [NH_TCPIP].

3. In this section find the line that begins with:

;;NH_SERVER_ADDR = <Addr1>, <Addr2>

4. Remove the semi-colons (;;) from the beginning of the line and edit it to look like this:

NH_SERVER_ADDR = <Addr1>, <Addr2>

5. Edit the line to write the Host Name of the server the dongle is attached to. Here we use serverName as an example:

13

Page 16: Digital Pro Network Installation Procedures

Toon Boom Digital Pro - Network Installation Procedures

NH_SERVER_ADDR = serverName

6. Find the line that begins with:

;;NH_USE_BROADCAST = Enabled or Disabled

7. Remove the semi-colons (;;) from the beginning of the line and edit it to look like this:

NH_USE_BROADCAST = Disabled

8. Save the changes you have just made to the nethasp.ini file. Leave this file in it’s new location, this retains the original should you ever require the original file.

9. The license file should now point to the location of the correct dongle.
