The music source of a new generation.

Pandora is an automated music recommenda-tion service and custodian of the Music Ge-nome Project. Users enter a song or artist that they enjoy, and the service responds by play-ing selections that are musically similar. Users provide feedback on approval or disapproval of individual songs, which Pandora takes into account for future selections.

While listening, users are offered the ability to buy the songs or albums at various online retailers. Over 400 different musical attributes are considered when selecting the next song. These 400 attributes are combined into larger groups called focus traits. There are 2,000 fo-cus traits. Examples of these are rhythm syn-copation, key tonality, vocal harmonies and displayed instrumental proficiency. through many stand-alone players such as Frontier Silicon-based connected audio systems, Slim Devices and Sonos[1] product(s). On July 11, 2008, Pandora launched a mobile version of

The Pandora media player is based on Open Laszlo. Pandora can also be accessed through many stand-alone players such as Frontier Silicon-based connected audio systems, Slim Devices and Sonos[1] product(s). On July 11, 2008, Pandora launched a mobile version of their software for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch through the iTunes App Store. Pandora is also available for Android phones[2] (such as the T-Mobile G1), BlackBerry platforms, WebOS (used on the Palm Pre), and Windows Mobile devices. Pandora was the provider for MSN Radio until MSN discontinued their inter-net radio service on June 18, 2008.

GroovesharkOne of Grooveshark’s most notable features is its recommendation system called “Groove-shark Radio”, which finds similar songs to those in a user’s playlist and queues them for playback. Similar to Pandora’s “thumbs up” and “thumbs down” feedback mechanism, us-ers of Grooveshark can tell the recommenda-tion system whether a particular recommenda-tion was good or not by clicking a “happyface” or “sadpanda” icon.[4] When users are satis-fied with the current list of songs in their queue, they are able to save the songs as a traditional playlist for later retrieval.

A Twitter-like social feature allows users to “follow” each other to make it easier to share songs by clicking a special heart icon which adds it to the logged-in user’s list of favorite users. This list can be accessed by navigating to the user’s profile on the service. Like users, songs and playlists can also be added to a fa-vorites list. Music can be shared on Groove-shark by directly linking songs to other users within Grooveshark or by posting links to other social networks like Facebook and MySpace through a “broadcast” feature, or by creating music widgets (small, embeddable music play-ers) that can be posted on l websites.

Despite these concerns, no user to date has faced legal action from Grooveshark or third-parties. Parties in the USA claiming copyright

In Denmark Grooveshark have still not made an agreement with KODA, which is a non-profit rights society representing Danish and interna-tional composer/publisher rights. According to KODA Grooveshark is still a pirate service and should therefore not be used because Dan-ish composers and songwriters do not receive enough money from Grooveshark.[24]

Grooveshark has a large collection of music, both well-known and cult, there are no subscription fees, and it's simple for the user.
