BEHIND THE SCENES To demonstrate the incredible power

of the OM-D and the versatility of our

Micro Four Thirds lens system, we

hit the road with Olympus Visionary

John Sterling Ruth. John is widely

recognized as one of the top com-

mercial photographers in the country.

He opened his studio over 20 years

ago and currently produces a wide

range of high-end photography and

video that unleashes the creative

potential of his clients’ brands.

In the following pages, you’ll see the

incredible images that he captured at

Roy’s Motel/Café on historic Route

66 in Amboy, CA. He shot for two

days, from sunup to sundown, using

all Olympus lenses and additional

converter lens options to provide over

1,000 images and multiple videos.

Shooting cars in this historic location gave John and his team the opportunity for action

shots as well as allowing them the creativity to focus on the car’s macro details and

beautiful lines. The colors and lighting of the desert were the perfect backdrop to show

off our full range of lens capabilities, like capturing low-light shots at sunset.

AS CREATIVE AS A BODY CAP CAN GET. It appears to be a protective

body cap for your Micro Four Thirds camera,

but this body cap also doubles as a Fisheye

lens with an 35mm equivalent focal length of

18mm. Constructed of five lens elements in

four distinct groups and utilizing two aspherical

elements, this fixed f8.0 aperture Fisheye lens

features an ultra-wide 140-degree angle of

view. Because it is manual focus only, shutter

release is nearly instantaneous, making it a

great companion for your PEN or OM-D body

when you’re out and around town getting

those spontaneous street shots. The body

cap’s function lever lets you choose from a

macro focus position that allows shooting as

close as eight inches, an intermediate position,

an infinity position, as well as the “barrier” or

closed position, where this lens functions as a

protective body cap.

IS IT A BODY CAP OR A LENS? It’s both.

The BCL-15mm f8.0 Body Cap lens

serves as a body cap when carrying the

camera around without its interchangeable

lens, and transforms to become a pan-

focus snapshot lens to capture images

spontaneously. The lens is so thin — just

.35" thick — that it can easily be mistaken

for a camera-mount body cap. With three

glass lens elements in three groups, it can

be used as a wide-angle lens equivalent

with a single focal length of 30mm (35mm

camera equivalent). In addition to daily use

as a pan-focus lens featuring a wide angle,

fixed f8 aperture and deep depth of field,

its manual focusing lever has a close focus

position, allowing shooting as close as

11.8”. A lens-protection barrier is provided

so the lens can be mounted permanently

on the camera, and even put in a pocket

together with the camera.
