DIGITAL ART from I N N O V A Press Release Innova Digital Art at Photokina Papermaking is a two thousand-year-old technology and artists have been painting on canvas for centuries. These two media are the bedrock of mankind’s greatest artistic achievements: from the works of Shakespeare and the drawings of Da Vinci, to the paintings of Titian, Velasquez and Vermeer. The iconic images of modern times have been caught on paper and canvas by Picasso, Warhol and Rothko; they have also given substance to the photographic innovations of Capa, Cartier-Bresson and Arbus. It is for this reason that digital fine art paper and canvas company, Innova Art, has invited world class Photographer Douglas Menuez, renowned book artist and printmaker, Eric Kunsman, and Karsten Ludwig of the newly launched print-on- demand supplier, State of the Art GmbH & Co., on to its stand (Hall 10.1, stand D2) at this year’s Photokina. All three will be demonstrating how the company’s award- winning products, like their historical counterparts, are an integral part in the making of the modern masterpiece. ‘Digital printing may be a 21st-century technology,’ says Sales Director Mark Messina, ‘but if it is to produce images that will endure, that stand comparison with the iconic images of the past, it is artists who will show how this can be achieved.’ The Innova Art stand will carry an exhibition of photographs and books printed on Innova digital papers by Douglas Menuez. Menuez, one of America’s most acclaimed and versatile photographers, has photographed the Olympics, the destruction of the Amazonian rainforest and famine in Ethiopia, and has a client base that ranges from the Washington Post, Time, People and Fortune Magazine, to Siemens, Hewlett Packard, Coca Cola and Microsoft. His witty and insightful photographic account of the rise of Silicon Valley was recently acquired by Stanford University Library as a historical record of prime importance. Menuez has always sought out new challenges and, for him, digital photography offers fresh territory. However, he would not have opted for it in place of traditional Innova digital fine art papers - foundation of the modern masterpiece. Papermaking is a two thousand-year-old technology and artists have been painting

on canvas for centuries. These two media are the bedrock of mankind’s greatest

artistic achievements: from the works of Shakespeare and the drawings of Da Vinci,

to the paintings of Titian, Velasquez and Vermeer. The iconic images of modern times

have been caught on paper and canvas by Picasso, Warhol and Rothko; they have

also given substance to the photographic innovations of Capa, Cartier-Bresson and

Arbus.

It is for this reason that digital fine art paper and canvas company, Innova Art,

has invited world class Photographer Douglas Menuez, renowned book artist and

printmaker, Eric Kunsman, and Karsten Ludwig of the newly launched print-on-

demand supplier, State of the Art GmbH & Co., on to its stand (Hall 10.1, stand D2)

at this year’s Photokina. All three will be demonstrating how the company’s award-

winning products, like their historical counterparts, are an integral part in the making

of the modern masterpiece.

‘Digital printing may be a 21st-century technology,’ says Sales Director Mark Messina,

‘but if it is to produce images that will endure, that stand comparison with the iconic

images of the past, it is artists who will show how this can be achieved.’

The Innova Art stand will carry an exhibition of photographs and books printed on

Innova digital papers by Douglas Menuez. Menuez, one of America’s most acclaimed

and versatile photographers, has photographed the Olympics, the destruction of

the Amazonian rainforest and famine in Ethiopia, and has a client base that ranges

from the Washington Post, Time, People and Fortune Magazine, to Siemens, Hewlett

Packard, Coca Cola and Microsoft. His witty and insightful photographic account of

the rise of Silicon Valley was recently acquired by Stanford University Library as a

historical record of prime importance.

Menuez has always sought out new challenges and, for him, digital photography

offers fresh territory. However, he would not have opted for it in place of traditional

processes had he not been convinced that the resulting images are the equal of

conventional photographic prints and even exceed them in terms of image quality.

Speaking about the newest products to the Innova range and a breakthrough in the

digital darkroom, Menuez says:

‘I’m blown away by the quality of the FibaPrint TM Gloss. I got chills- like I was making

prints in the darkroom for the first time. Bravo!’

Eric Kunsman founded Booksmart Studio, Rochester, USA, in 2004, as a fine art studio

specialising in print or artists’ books using digital printing technology. Kunsman,

himself a highly regarded photographer and book artist, teaches digital art courses

and lectures at the Rochester Institute of Technology, USA. Booksmart Studio also

host digital workflow and book arts workshops in Rochester, NY as well as locations

throughout the USA. He has quickly become established as one of the world’s leading

authorities in the field of book arts, and is closely involved in the development of

products that deliver the necessary flexibility, durability and image quality. He will be

demonstrating how the latest additions to the Innova range of book art papers and

stunning Opus range of albums can be used to create artist’s books of the highest

artistic value and craftsmanship.

‘I use Innova Book Arts papers for my book projects because Innova has listened to

book artists about our needs which is different from those of digital printmakers.

Innova’s book arts paper has the consistent grain direction, archival qualities, durable

surface, and highest print quality available one needs to create fine edition books.’

GmbH & Co., will be on hand to demonstrate his newly launched print-on-demand

print kiosk system for galleries using Innova products and printing on the latest

Canon wide format printers. His is the first ‘open system’ print-on-demand solution
