Digit Map

A digit map is a dial plan for a phone to know when an entered number is complete and should be initiated.

When digits are dialed, they will be compared against the digit map patterns and if a match is found, the call will be initiated automatically eliminating the need to press the send button.

Extension Settings

First select desired extension length. Switchvox supports 3-6 digit dialing. Changing the length does not change existing extensions. This is the setting your digit map uses for dialing extensions on Switchvox. (Extensions > Extension Settings)

The digit map & timeout fields only need to be changed for custom setups. (System Setup>Phone Setup>Show Advanced Options>Digit Map Options)

Default Settings

I. Default Digit Map: [0-8]xxx|911|9411|9611|9011xxx.T|91xxxxxxxxxx|9[2-9]xxxxxx|*xx.T|

II. Default Digit Map Timeout: 3|3|3|3|3|3|3|3

Each timeout value represents the timeout, in seconds, for each digit map segment. If there are more digit maps than timeout values, the default of 3 seconds is used. If there are more timeout values than digit maps, the extra timeout values are ignored.

Digit Map Syntax

Default Digit Map: [0-8]xxx|911|9411|9611|9011xxx.T|91xxxxxxxxxx|9[2-9]xxxxxx|*xx.T|

Define: x = Any digit 0 to 9. T = Matching a timer expiry. . = Any arbitrary number | = Pipe used to separate digit map strings. [ ] = Two digits separated by a hyphen which match any digit between and including the two.

What it means:

This digit map allows 4-digit extension dialing & requires outbound calls to have a “9” prefix to be dialed, which is trimmed off by the outgoing call rule, with the exception 911:

[0-8]xxx|911|9411|9611|9011xxx.T|91xxxxxxxxxx|9[2-9]xxxxxx|*xx.T|

What it means: [0-8]xxx = A 4 digit extension that starts with 0-8 is dialed immediately. 911 = (Emergency) 911 is dialed immediately. 9411 = (Directory assistance) 411is dialed immediately. 9611 = (Information) 611 is dialed immediately. 9011xxx.T = (International rule) when 011 plus any 3 digits 0-9, plus any additional digits are dialed, the phone waits T seconds for any additional digits and then completes the call. 91xxxxxxxxxx = (Long distance) 1 plus any 10 digits is dialed immediately. 9[2-9]xxxxxx = (Local) Any 7 digit number starting with 2-9. *xx.T = (Feature code) when * plus 2 digits, plus any additional digits are dialed, the phone waits T seconds for any additional digits and then completes the call.

digit map settings based on the extension lengths.
