1.1 - About Digi-Sign Digi-Sign products were designed by Digital Spectrum Solutions, Inc. in Irvine, CA. Digital Spectrum launched the first digital picture frame into the US retail market in 2001. 2.0 - Get to know your Digi-Sign - HARDWARE Traditional digital signage solutions require the combination of a monitor, a media player, a server, client and server side software, professional installation and days of training to operate them. Digi-Sign products are all-in-one solutions, easy to use and quick to set up. Everything you need is included.

Digi-Sign products feature a 10.4” or 15.0” TFT LCD display with an Integrated Media Player and Wi-Fi connectivity. Digi-Sign displays can be installed and secured in a variety of fashions. Place them on a counter using the included table stand. Mount them on a wall, horizontally or vertically. Build them into a POS (point of sale) display. The product has a Kensington Security Slot built-in, and therefore can be secured with a Kensington security lock (sold separately).

Load content locally via the USB port (using a thumb drive) or an SD Card. The DS-1040 and DS-1500 models come with 256 MB of internal memory. Play your content from internal memory, a USB thumb drive or an SD card. Connect to your Wi-Fi access point for internet access, allowing you to play content from SignChannel, an RSS feed or even an FTP Client.

2.2 – Upgradeable Antenna Digi-Sign products ship with an external 90 degree foldable 3db Wi-Fi antenna with a female SMA connector. The included antenna generally provides excellent reception. However, there may be situations where an upgraded omni-directional or directional antenna would be desirable. A simple search on the web for “Wireless Networking Antenna” or “Hi-Gain Wireless Antenna” will provide many options to meet your specific needs. An antenna upgrade can increase your signal strength from a Gain of 3db to anywhere from 7db to 15db, depending on the antenna and your specific conditions.

Onmi-directional antenna Omni-directional Antenna Indoor directional antenna Outdoor directional antenna

2.3 – Interchangeable Frame, Open Face

Digi-Sign products feature an interchangeable frame mechanism which allows the user to change out the factory provided 8”X10” frame for a frame of their choice. The patented locking mechanism utilizes a small grove in the frame to latch the frame in place.

This same feature can be applied to POS displays, or any other presentation where the display would be built in. Simply remove the wood frame to reveal the open face of the Digi-Sign product. Measure and cut your opening, router a notch for the latch mechanism and you have an easy to mount display. Here are the frame sizes for each model:

DS-1040 8” X 10” frame

DS-1500 11 5/8” X 14” frame

6.0 - Play your content from local memory Digi-Sign products include a built-in Media Manager. No additional software is required to play your files. Simply select the source where your content resides, and then choose the files you want to play.

Play from local memory options include:

• Internal Memory • USB Thumb Drive • SD Card

6.1 – Internal Memory

Digi-Sign products have 256 MB (megabytes) of memory built-in. You can copy your files to internal memory using the Media Manager. Note: To maximize the number of images you can store, resize all images to no larger than 1024 X 768. This size is sufficient for 10.4” and 15.0” Digi-Sign displays.

6.2 – USB Thumb Drive

For quick file transfer, or additional storage, USB Thumb drives are easy to use and very inexpensive. You can choose to play files directly from the USB Thumb drive too. If your Digi-Sign display will be accessible by the public, we recommend loading the content onto internal memory or using an SD card, as Thumb Drives are easy to see and easy to remove.

Page 14: DIGISIGN Manual v 1 - Yahoolib.store.yahoo.net/lib/pcpowerzone/DS1040UsersGuide.pdfv 1.17 Page 3 of 19 Simple Digital Signage 1.0 - Introduction Welcome to Digi-Sign, the first simple

v 1.17 Page 14 of 19

6.3 – SD Card

SD cards are commonly used in digital cameras for picture storage, and are a great way to transfer your content or even to play your content from. SD cards are inserted into the display’s card reader, making them nearly unnoticeable.

6.4 – The Media Manager

Digi-Sign products include a built-in Media Manager. The media manager is activated automatically when a local memory option is selected (i.e. SD, USB, Internal Memory). Note that the icon for the media type selected is in the upper right hand corner of the screen, showing which option you selected from the PLAY menu (Internal memory, USB, SD). Select PLAY ALL to play all files shown.

The Media Manger – Content details

Use the remote to toggle over a folder to see the name of the folder, how many files are in the folder, and what type of files they are. The content details are displayed at the bottom of the screen.

In this example, one folder is tagged and PLAY SELECTED is chosen.

When selecting files on a USB Thumb Drive or an SD card, you have the option to COPY ALL or COPY SELECTED to internal memory.

The Media Manger –Sequence your files

You can also define the order in which the files will play by selecting EDIT SEQUENCE and then selecting the files you want to play in the order you want them to play in.

The Media Manger –Play images and music

Multiple file formats can be chosen to play in a playlist. Note that Digi-Sign products will play both Image and Audio files. JPEG and MP3 file formats (respectively) are recommended.

7.0 – Play your content from a remote source (manage remotely over the web) Digi-Sign content can be managed remotely (over the web) by utilizing an RSS feed, SignChannel or an FTP client. Using an RSS feed is a great choice if you are web savvy or have a website developer on staff. SignChannel is a SaaS (Software as a Service) which is extremely easy to use and provides content creation, management and scheduling options, along with hundreds of channels of aggregated content which you can use, all for a low monthly fee. FTP is a simple file transfer protocol which allows content to be pushed to the displays in real time, however may require someone with advanced technical knowhow. Following is a summary of each. See www.signpak.co for additional details.

7.1 – RSS Feeds (Really Simple Syndicate)

RSS is a standard format in which to publish a web feed, most commonly used for news and blogs. Digi-Sign products include an RSS Feed Reader, allowing users to create their own RSS feeds to manage their content on the display. Users can also use the unit to read other RSS feeds to inform and entertain their customers. See Settings to set up an RSS feed. See www.signpak.co for more information.

7.2 – SignChannel (SaaS)

SignChannel is a low costs subscription based digital signage content management solution that is hosted in the cloud, on the web. A subscription to SignChannel is not required to use your Digi-Sign product, however SignChannel does offer a great service and lots of aggregated content that will allow you to keep your message fresh and interesting to your customers. Set up a free account at www.signchannel.com to test drive the SaaS. No fees are required until you link a Digi-Sign display to your account. See www.signpak.co for more information.

7.3 – FTP (File Transfer Protocol)

Digi-Sign products include a built-in FTP Server. Content can be pushed (sent) to the display in real time via an FTP Client over a Wi-Fi network, or even over the web. See Settings to set up FTP. While this is a more advanced method of managing the display’s content, FTP can be a very useful tool, and enables large scale management of the displays. See www.signpak.co for more information.

8.0 – OSD Menu (On Screen Display)

When in PLAY mode (while your content is playing), either from a local source or the web, the OSD menu can be activated by pressing the MENU button on the remote control. The OSD menu provides 4 options:

• Brightness / Contrast

• Update Playlist

• Frame Lock

• Main Menu
