DIGIPAK ANALYSIS

Page 2: Digipak analysis

The Kaiser Chiefs are an English indie rock band that have a digipak in the style of a box to promote their album ‘Employment’.

The box is designed to look old and vintage with basic but bold writing on the front with the band and album name. The text is printed over a yellow box which instantly draws your attention to the writing. This may have been done to make the target audience curious about it.

Having a vintage digipak suggests that they are into music before their t ime. Employment was released in 2005 but their target audience could be people that were alive in the 80s/90s.

The CD covers contrast with the colours on the outside of the box which could present the band as vibrant, happy and fun as it makes it much more interesting to look at.

The disk is designed to look like a roulette wheel which adds to the theme of gambling that has been established by the poster of a game board.

This continues the gambling/game theme. On the post-it notes on the snakes and ladders board there are names of producers who produced certain songs on the album. The theme of gambling is portrayed inside the box which contrasts the outside of the box. This idea could potentially be refl ected in the music which explains why the style of the Digipak was chosen.

INSIDE THE BOX

Inside the box, it contains fake money, two cd cases, an instruction booklet and poster. It has been designed to look like what would have been made in the 80s/90s. This idea is emphasised by the kids on the poster who would have been brought up in this time period.

This is likely to attract those who were brought up in this era as they will be able to relate to it.
