Mouth• First, our teeth start

the process by chewing• The tongue is also

working by helping swallow the food

• Moistening saliva starts the chemical digestion ( enzymes break down large molecules of the food into smaller ones the body can absorb)

Page 3: Digestive System

Throat• Food passes

down the throat to the esophagus -a hollow organ that transports contents.

Page 4: Digestive System

Stomach

• The esophagus empties into the stomach- a large muscular chamber that mixes up food.

• Hydrolic Acid works to help dissolve the stomachs contents and any harmful bacteria

Page 5: Digestive System

Small Intestine

• The small intestine is where major digestion and absorption of nutrients takes place.

• The nutrients are then taken into the bloodstream and transported to the liver.

Page 6: Digestive System

Large Intestine• What’s left in the digestive

tract passes into the large intestine, there it’s eaten by billions of harmless bacteria and mixed with dead cells to from solid feces.

• Water is reabsorbed into the body while the feces is moved to the rectum for expulsion.
