Welcome to the April edition of Dígame, bringing you the bestof what is happening across Mallorca. This month sees theexciting Alternatilla Festival, which is a mixture of art, musicand theatre. It is the 4th edition of this festival of discovery andit is growing in stature every year. In this edition you can findsome unusual and thought provoking art events, plus somewonderful music from both established and new groups andperformers from around the world. Another event not to missis The English Comedy Night in Son Caliu, Palmanova on the16th with 2 great comedians from the UK appearing.

As ever, we try to give you as much information as possible,but if you do know of anything happening in your street, oranywhere else, let us know so that we can tell the 40,000 orso readers across the island about it as well.

Shake off “the crisis” blues with a few laughs at the first in a series of English ComedyNights in Son Caliu. Two top names from the current UK comedy circuit, ALAN FRANCIS &ANTHONY KING, are flying over to entertain you for the evening. Local celebrity andPocketman, RICHIE CLARK, will host the evening with his own brand of wit & humor,concluding the proceedings as DJ with a selection of all time classic sounds from the 80´s,90´s and more. (Part of the Alternatilla 09).

Alan Francis is a co-writer on Alistair McGowan’s BigImpression and a master of acutely observed charactermonologues, combining the sinister and surreal withbrilliant sardonic wit.

Anthony King offers something of a pot pourri of comedystyles: a good dollop of observational stuff, a generoushelping of banter, a dash of spontaneity plus a handful ofdeadpan one-liners to add spice.

Barroco bar has a unique feel about it, witha cosy bar and lounge area it is the idealplace to come and meet friends old andnew and admire some great art from talentaround the island. This month they areshowcasing paintings from Palma born,Alicia Blázquez, who studied art at the“Escuela de Artes y Oficios de Palma” (Artsand trade School) and has exhibited at anumber of venues throughout the cityduring the last three years. Alicia’spaintings invite us into her emotionalworld, with emphasis more on theappearance than on the content, sheallows us to feel sensations that transportus to the essence of our nature.

BISHOP ALLEN:

An indie band that is making waves in the US and now across Europe with their currentwhistle-stop tour. A group that have definitely found their direction with the latest albumGRRR. It is of a style that you would describe as bouncy pop rock, but don’t let that put youoff; you won’t get these great tunes out of your head. The new album is a tapestry ofexcellent melodies and great lyrics that jump imperceptibly from one track to the next.Incredibly catchy music played and sung so that you can hear the words and the musicclearly giving you the chance to really enjoy it.

The band was formed in New York in 2003 and grew out of the main performers, JustinRice and Christian Rudder’s friendship, taking their name from Bishop Allen Drive wherethe two lived together after leaving Harvard University. GRRR is their 3rd album andpositively their best yet.

Un grupo indie que está pegando fuerte en EEUU y ahora también en Europa con su actualgira, de recorrido rápido. Un grupo que ha encontrado su dirección definitiva con su últimoálbum GRRR.
