Recommendation

If you like books that make you laugh with characters middle school students can relate to,

then you will love Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I can make a connection to Greg and Rowley’s

relationship because my me and my best friend Ms. Jones are new at NGMS and we are trying our

best to learn what it is like in a new school environment. We also get into a lot of funny

situations like Rowley and Greg.

Rating• Overall, I would give Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney

four out of five stars.

• What worked? This book had humor, interesting and realistic characters, realistic situations, and fun graphics included throughout.

• What didn’t work? This book didn’t evoke any strong emotions from me. Although I felt bad when Greg and Rowley were arguing, it didn’t change my perspective on friendship. I also don’t know if this book made me a better reader.

My Top Three

1. Two major themes in this book are friendship and trying to fit in. I think that almost anyone can relate to Greg Heffley as a character.

2. This book is part of a multi-book series. The fun doesn’t have to end after this book! Check out Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw or Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules for more laughs!

3. One of the best things about these books is that Jeff Kinney uses illustrations throughout. If you need a better visual, the books have been made into movies! While the movies aren’t as good as the books, they are still worth watching.
