Newsletter No. 17 7th October 2016
From the Principal ………..
Welcome Back!
It is great to see everyone refreshed and excited to be back at
school. Term 4 has commenced very smoothly. The level
teams have their learning and teaching program well planned
and prepared for their students. Term 4 is a very important
term. The focus on learning and teaching and completion of
work tasks continues. Term 4 is one quarter of the learning
year for our students. This is a significant amount of time.
During Term 4 it is important for our students to be focused
on this year. During the final quarter of learning and teaching
for the 2016 year, the students are consolidating and extend-
ing their learning, which is very important preparation for
next year. I am looking forward to seeing the students apply-
ing themselves to the best of their ability to their learning and
work. Having an excellent work ethic and pride in the work
you do, enhances learning outcomes and opportunities. Term
4 promises to continue the excellence we provide our stu-
dents.
I feel like it is the end of an era! Today is the last working day
at Wattle Park of our well-loved and highly regarded business
manager of 25 years, Mrs Robyn Hunter.
The staff and I can’t actually imagine the school without
Robyn. She has been such an integral part of the school;
knowing the financial machinations of the department, the
human resource component of staffing intricately, the history
of the school and most importantly being familiar with every
one of us; students, teachers and parents over many years.
I will personally miss Robyn enormously. The relationship
between business manager and principal is integral to the suc-
cessful operations of a school. Robyn’s knowledge of pro-
cesses is second to none. She has been a wonderful teacher to
three principals; Mr Ray Dennis, Mr Nick Farley and me.
However a new and exciting chapter awaits Robyn. Travel, sleep-ins, a growing brood of grandchildren and quality time to
spend with her husband, Rod.
Today students and teachers farewelled Robyn with an avenue of honour along the pathway to the car park where the school
ambassadors; Lainey W, Lu H, Will H and Juan Z presented Robyn with a gift from the students of a mosaic bird bath with a
wattle emblem.
We wish Robyn all the very best for her new adventures. New Zealand is the first trip of I’m sure many holidays abroad.
We would like to warmly welcome three new staff members to the Wattle Park team. Mrs Helen Dalzotto who is the school’s
new business manager, Ms Liz Purcell who has taken on Foundation C and also to Ms Samantha Teng who is stepping into
Year 4H while Mr Steve Donohue is the acting assistant principal in Ms Megan Ganter’s absence.
If you were at assembly on Monday you would have heard Acacia house captains; Tom W and Meg W recount all of the
events that are planned for this term. It is a phenomenal list!
This list comprises of: Year 5 Bike Ed program
Division athletics, year 4 to year 6 students
Hoop time regional finals year 6
Division athletics
Whole school production
Wattle Park fun run
Year 2 Maths night
Foundation 2017 step up transition program
Year 2 sleepover
School fete
Foundation party maths night
Carols night
Whole School Swimming Program
Year 6 graduation
Year 6 Fun fields Day
All of this while at the same time teaching a whole school curriculum of Mathematics, English, Science, Humanities, Visual
Arts, Performing Arts, Health and Physical Education, Technology, Chinese and Personal and Social Capabilities.
It is indeed a busy term!
Please be aware that preparations for 2017 are well underway. It is vital at this stage that we receive information about students
who may not be returning next year and that all enrolments for 2017 are completed. At this point in time we are planning for
18 classes across the school.
In a few weeks, teachers will begin discussions relating to classes for 2017. A number of factors are taken into account when
placing students in class groups. Please note that unfortunately parents are not able to request specific teachers or friendship
groupings for their child. If parents feel their child has specific educational needs in relation to class placement, all communi-
cation regarding this will only be accepted in writing, addressed to the Principal and must be received by Monday 31st October.
Congratulations to both Hayley Wilson and Pia Chadwick who are now both mothers of bouncing baby boys; Flynn Wilson
and Frederick Osborne. All of them well and thriving.
Finally, the sunshine! Enjoy the weekend everyone, free of AFL football at last!
Regards Gayle
Mrs Robyn Hunter
Students who participated in the ICAS English & Maths competition

WALK-TOBER: WALK TO SCHOOL CHALLENGE
Dear Parents and Students, As a school community, Wattle Park Primary is taking part in the Walk to School Challenge this October, organised by the Victorian Health Foundation and Whitehorse Council. It is about challenging yourself to make walking to school part of your regular routine. Walking to school is a great way to keep chil-dren physically active and healthy, helps the environment and is a great opportunity to meet some other families along the way and have fun walking together! It also can reduce traffic con-gestion during pick up and drop off times, therefore helping to make it a safer environment for our school community. For the week beginning Monday October 3rd, 2016 (first day back at school of term 4) our school will begin the challenge, which will run for 4 weeks.
To participate, students need to record how they get to and from school on the wall Calendar that each classroom will have for the month of October. For those who bike ride, scoot or like to travel to school by any other physically active means may also count this as walking to school. Those children that also walk part of the way or participate in our running club (held Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings at 8:15am) may also include this as a walk to school day. The class with the most walks to school will receive a prize at the end of the month, and every student that partici-pates will also receive a certificate for all their hard work and dedication!
Best of luck to you all,
The Student Representative Council (SRC) Team.
Dear Parent/Guardian, Fun-Run as a major fundraising event this year. The event will be held on THURSDAY 20
TH OCTOBER!
This event is being held to fundraise towards improvements for Wattle Park Primary School. About the Program The School Fun-Run promotes healthy and active lifestyles while helping us raise funds! It’s all about par-ticipation, with students treated to a great day, and rewarded for their fundraising efforts with fantastic in-centive prizes. Family support is key to our fundraising success and we encourage all students to get involved. How Does My Child Fundraise? All students will receive a Sponsorship Form (see attached) where the money collected is to be noted. In the Sponsorship Form you will find many other benefits such as the chance to win a Samsung Galaxy Tablet (42 to give away)! Students use this Sponsorship Form to record cash donations, noting down their supporters for ease. Students who raise just $10 or more will receive a reward for effort. We have educated students on the dangers of door knocking without adult supervision, please reiterate this at home. The best people to ask for sponsorship are people you know (e.g. friends, family, work colleagues and neighbours). Getting Involved on Event Day Not only can you support the school and participants with your sponsorship – but you can join in on the fun! We would like to welcome parents and family members to attend the School Fun-Run event day on THURSDAY 20
th OCTOBER to help cheer on the students. If you would also like to volunteer and help
out on the day please contact Tash Sinclair on the details below. We would love to see you at our event. Ordering Prizes To reward your child for getting involved, they’ll receive a prize based on the total amount they’ve fund-raised. Please help them with Step 4 – How to Claim Prizes, this can be found and filled out on the back page of the Sponsorship Form. This will need to be returned along with all money raised to the front office on or before FRIDAY 7
TH NOVEMBER, student prizes will arrive shortly after.
However if you want your child to participate for the benefits of good health and well-being, they do not have to be involved in claiming prizes or rewards. Achieving the run in itself is a reward.
Thank you, good luck and happy fundraising!
