This weekrsquos newsletter features the 2018 Combined

Sports Day

Firstly congratulations to the Lorikeets who were the

winning house Well done to all the captains and staff

for their first-rate organisation

Each of the teams were dazzling in their presentation of

colour and there was fierce competition in both the

athletic and novelty events It really is a celebration of

community participation

The staff came last in the tractor-pull again Obviously

our recruitment strategy needs some work

A big thank you to the parents who came along to

support their children in the events Your attendance

added to the colour and atmosphere of the day The

students always respond positively to your presence

Student Parent Teacher Conversations

Next Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday are our

Student Parent Teacher Meetings

These Conversations provide an opportunity to resolve

any issues that may be hampering a studentrsquos learning

at the start of the year while allowing plenty of time for

them to thrive over the next three terms

Please take the opportunity to discuss your childrsquos

progress and maximise their learning for the rest of the

year You should have received login information to

create your appointments online

The Middle School format has changed with the

students working feverishly over the past two weeks on

their presentations

Irsquom sure you will be impressed with their understanding

of their progress and their identification of the areas

where they want to improve

ANZAC ASSEMBLY

ANZAC Day falls in the April holidays this year

To ensure we acknowledge the importance of this day

we will be holding a joint ANZAC Ceremony with HCCS

on the last day of term Friday 13 April at 1200

The ceremony is open to all parents so please come and

join us if you can

Students will be dismissed from their Home Groups at

215pm

External Review

Next Wednesday we welcome a review panel to the

school to study the changes in our educational

programs over the past eighteen months

A cross-section of students from Reception to Year 12 will

be meeting with the panel to ensure that students have

a voice in the process They will also be contacting

representatives of School Council to get a parent

perspective

This is an opportunity for a fresh set of eyes to look at

what we have been doing and give us feedback about

our plans for the future

Open Night

A large number of prospective parents attended

Open Night last Tuesday listening to the school band

and having a tour of our facilities

The evening attracted well over a hundred people who

have heard about the positive progress in our academic

results and student wellbeing

It is good to see that the local community is recognising

the hard work of our staff and the partnerships we are

forging with students and parents

Irsquom looking forward to growing the Public Education

presence in the Valley based on the overwhelming

interest in our school

SRC Sports Day and Harmony Day Fundraisers

SRC has raised the following so far this year

$400 on Sports Day at a food stall run by the SRC

middle school students and teacher representatives

$100 selling cupcakes and bringing a gold coin

donation to wear orange day for Harmony Day SRC

baked and iced the cakes with orange icing

Altogether we have raised $500 that will go towards our

new SRC name badges and an SRC leadership day next

term

The money left over will go into the SRC budget for

anything that students identify as needing to be done

around the school

Sam and I would like to thank all students who assisted

on the stalls

It was hard work and all involved were excellent role

models for our school

Tallis Richardson amp Sam Clyma SRC Co-Presidents

On behalf of the OAS Council I would like to thank all

the parents and students from both OAS and HCCS for

supporting the Canteen during Term 1

Marlies has worked extremely hard to provide the freshly

prepared home made items on the Canteenrsquos new

menu In addition Marlies has worked tirelessly to

provide an array special items for 50 cents and $1 for the

students at Recess and Lunch times

The support from parents and students so far this year

has already resulted in the Canteen exceeding our

expectations

Please continue your support of the Canteen and

Marlies and look out for the new Canteen menu which

will be out in Term 2

If you have any suggestions for specific menu items you

would like to be provided please email

Thanks again for your support for our new initiative and if

you are able to spare a few hours per week please feel

free to volunteer your time to help out

Year 11 and 12 Biology students modelling their

understanding of Mitosis and Meiosis (or what we

like to call line dancing with chromosomes)

The Year 12s are learning about Meiosis which is the

production of egg and sperm cells from our ovary

and testes cells

The Year 11s are creating a modelposter of

Mitosis - which is how almost all the cells in our body

divide to replace damaged dead cells - and

create new ones when we grow
