Pyramid Hill Night Netball

A new season of Tuesday Night Netball kicked off

this week. It was great to see some new faces and

we hope they enjoy the season.

The 7pm game saw the Purple team take on the Red

team in what shaped up to be an entertaining match.

Both teams showed a lot of energy and with some

of the new players still finding there feet the

umpires were kept busy. The Purple team managed

to stretch their lead every quarter and won the game

36-19.

In the late game Pink and Green took to the court

and played out a close game all the way to the final

whistle. The Pink shooters showed a little more

composure and opened up a match winning lead in

the first half. It was a much closer contest in the

second half but Green couldn't close the gap. Pink

won 30-24.

Results

After last weeks sensational win by the Seniors, we headed down to the First Semi Final at Mitiamo confident that we could pull off a win. We took to the field with a different line up to the previous week as injuries and unavailability allowed three Under 18 footballers an unreal opportunity. Unfortunately our fairy tale finals finish was unable to continue and Calivil steam rolled us as they moved into the Preliminary Final.

Seniors

On a magnificent Winter's day we travelled to Mitiamo to keep our season alive against Calivil United. The heat was on in the first quarter and both teams traded goals. The Demons took a slight 4 point lead into the first change but it was game on, both teams were fighting hard to win the contested footy and both teams were relishing the challenge. It was a similar affair in the second term as the ball flowed freely from end to end, a couple of late goals however, gave Calivil a 3 goal margin at the main break. The second half was one we would like to forget. Calivil kicked the first 3 goals of the third quarter and the buffer was too great for the boys to peg back. We fought the game out until the final siren and the scoreboard most definitely did not

do the game justice. Whilst the result of this game was disappointing and a sad way for our season to end, the effort and performances that allowed us to make the Semi Final is what should be remembered.

We fought through adversity many times this season with injuries galore, but the boys stuck at it and finished the season in 4th position - much higher than many predicted initially. Only positive signs for 2017 and beyond...

Final Score: Calivil Utd 21.19.145 def Pyramid Hill 7.10.52 Best Players: Victoria Hotel Award: N Dundon, National Award: S Gunther, Others: J Francis, M Dundon, M Bateman, A Dobby Whilst last Sunday saw the end to our finals campaign, Senior Coach Brad Fawcett needs to be congratulated on leading the team in its rebuilding phase. At the end of the 2015 season we had a high turnover of players and Brad and his support crew have done an extraordi-nary job in taking this very young side through to the first semi-final. The team has also had the highest local content that it has seen for many years, which is a feat that many clubs would love to emulate. Thanks for the year Brad, and we look forward to an even bigger and better 2017! Congratulations to Michael Callinan (MC) for coming third in this years LVFNL Frank Harding Medal with a total of 23 votes. Congratulation also to Megan Gunther on being awarded the joint winner of the LVFNL Netball Rising Star Award. In these final club notes, it is only fitting that a huge thank you is extended to all who have contributed to getting our football teams on the park. Thanks to our very generous sponsors who support us through thick and thin! Victoria Hotel, Pyramid Hill, National Hotel, Burke Family, Hampson’s Sheep Dipping, Brad Peters, Coffee Bank,

Pyramid Bakery Café, Miller’s Ag Supplies and Wanda Atkins. The club could not continue to run without you and the players greatly appreciate their weekly awards. It was great to see after the game the boys come back to our local sponsor the Victoria Hotel, to reflect on the season gone and to build that team spirit and camaraderie that is so important in shaping the 2017 season. Thanks to Dave and Deb for their generosity on the night. Special thanks to our weekly match reporters Nathan Fitzpatrick (Seniors & Thirds) and Chris Leerson and Levi Southern (Reserves) for their reliability and punctuality with their reports. On September 10 we host the LVFNL Grand Final at Mitchell Park and this will be a huge day requiring a mountain of man and woman power. If you can help out in some way please let a Committee Member know. All support will be greatly appreciated. Let’s now look forward to an even bigger and better 2017 where we will need to capitalise on the many glimpses of hope that have been highlighted this season. Let’s make 2017 the year of the Doggies!
