900 Round

September was a good turn out. We had 14 shooters.

High score goes to Keith Toon with a 833. We had five young shooters, which was good to see.

We have one more shoot in November so those shooters that have 2 shoots need 1 more to get the shirt.

Come out and shoot. THE 900 ROUND IS BUYING LUNCH. Make sure to RSVP.

President’s Message Hello Members of Diablo Bowmen,

We opened the nominations of officers at the October club meeting. Bill Jorgenson will be stepping down from the range manager’s position, as Bill & Carol are planning to travel more next year. Thank you Bill & Carol for all of your hard work and dedication to the range. Bill was always one of the first people to arrive at the work party and made sure all tools were out and ready to go. He always had the tools in working order, brought the ice for drinks and made lunch. They spent numerous hours making the work list for each work day. It has been a pleasure working with you and I can’t thank you enough.

We’ll need to fill the position of Vice President, because Bill Potts has agreed to be the range manager. Thank you, Bill. We also need another 1 year board member. So if you’re interested please let me know.

The November 5th meeting will not be held at the range. It will take place at Mountain Mikes Pizza at 5358 Clayton Road Concord. The club will provide pizza for dinner starting at 6:00 pm. The meeting will begin at 7:00 pm.

Our installation and awards dinner will be held on December 10th, after our club shoot. Please come and enjoy a full day of fun and entertainment. The venue for this year’s dinner will be held at CMDTRA 1600 Trail Ride Rd. Clayton, the same place as last year. The cost and directions will be sent out in a memo next month.

Congratulation to Corey Todhunter on taking his first buck. His story starts here… ”I stalked within 10 yards of him. I took my boots off when I was 100 yards away to keep noise down. The wind was perfect. I only moved when the wind gusted. All the stars aligned. It was an amazing experience.”

Outreach Program October is the month of celebrations…and rain! On October 1st and 2nd, I completed my Level 2 Instructor’s certificate. I am so happy to have had the opportunity to learn more about the instruction of archery so that I may apply to our activities and events.

On October 14th, we hosted a birthday party for Aidan and his friends. The weather decided to turn, so these kiddos learned to shoot in the rain! They all did a fantastic job and had a great time learning to shoot, although it reminded me of last year’s Western Classic in Redding. On October 22, we will be hosting another birthday party for Addison. It promises to be fun, rain or shine!

As always, I would love to have experienced archers on hand to answer questions, share experiences and help these new archers begin their journey in the sport. If you are available and want some extra work hours, please contact me at [email protected].

I will be looking for additional ways to bring archery to our community through the winter months. I know the weather will play a factor, but I am thoroughly enjoying sharing archery with others and building our outreach program!

Shooters’ Corner Regional Tournament: The fourth and final leg of the NCFAA regional tournament was held at Briones archers on Sunday, October 9th. This was a 42 target field round. Briones did a great job hosting the shoot. Our club had three shooters at the final leg, Kierstyn Pool, Ethan Pool and Gianna D'arezzo. Great shooting girls and guy! Regional News: The Northern California Field Archery Association (NCFAA) now has a Facebook page and soon will have a web site. You can get information about shoots in our region and information will be forthcoming about next year's regional tournament. The regional tournament

Range Report

We got a lot of tree trimming done at the September work party and glued up the targets for the boo shoot. One of the practice bales was turned around so the new side is facing out, thanks Joe Brown and helpers for that.

Range Managers


is a series of four shoots; one indoor, an outdoor marked yardage 3D, a 900 target round and a 42 target field round. Shooters compete for an overall award that is a nice belt buckle. If you might be interested in next year's shoot, keep an eye on the Facebook page and soon a website.

Huntsmen Senior Games: Bill and Carol Jorgensen came back from the games in Utah with some hardware, full report in next month's news letter.

Traditional Archers of California Rancho Neblina Rendevouz: Six members from our club attended this annual event which is always a lot of fun. Thank You to Joe Brown who put on the Greg Tobler memorial balloon shoot for the kids at the event.

Region Needs a Legislative Representative Are you the one who is finally going to volunteer to hold the office of Leg Rep This question is addressed to all you members who have been satisfied with freeloading off all the hard work and many hours spent by CBH-SAA and NCFAA Officers.

I would like to challenge every member of CBH-SAA and NCFAA to look in the mirror and ask themselves if they are truly doing all they can to keep archery alive in California. This organization needs members to step up and assume positions of leadership. Oh! But I am not a leader you say. Then maybe it is time you became one. You may be absolutely amazed at how easy it is to lead when you are surrounded by capable and knowledgeable people. I implore all of you to do some soul searching. If you have a guilty feeling, then it is time to step up and volunteer to serve to help preserve archery in California.And let him know you are willing to volunteer to serve as an Officer of CBH-SAA.
