Transcript of Día de los Reyes Magos en Puerto Rico. “El Día de los Reyes Magos” is celebrated on January 6.
Día de la EpifaníaJanuary 6 is the
anniversary of the coming of the Three Wise Men to honor the infant Jesus at
Bethlehem. It’s also known as the Epiphany Day.
They brought Him gifts.
On La Víspera de Reyes (the Eve of the Three Kings Day) children write letters explaining
that they • Have behaved during the year and
• Asking them for presents.
They believe that their arrival will bring blessings to the whole family.
• The celebration • continues with • Las octavitas
Puerto Rican ask them for wisdom and thank them for the blessings.
• EL Día de Reyes is comparable to Christmas Day celebrations. Later in the day a holiday dinner is prepared and friends and relatives join the festivity. Lechón asado (roasted pig), chicharrones, arroz con gandules, arroz con dulce and tembleque are some of the traditional dishes.
While we wait for Santa and the Three Kings, let’s
look for the beauty in each of us, no matter where we come from. If we reach that point, we are allowing
Santa and the Three Kings to stay with us for the
holidays.
