INTERGENERATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
BUILDING BRIDGES FOR DIVERSE
FAMILIES
The theme for this years annual conference is one which impacts every family of every demographic: Intergenerational Relationships. Nationally and abroad, scholars, practitioners, educators, and family advocates continue to urge for greater understanding and support of a strong intergenerational society. This formidable task necessitates reciprocity among every individual in society. The old and the young must learn from one another, share knowledge, experience, all while meeting the needs of every member of the family. As the United States continues to age as a society, changes in family structures and living arrangements are increasingly influencing Intergenerational Relationships. By building bridges that span across all diverse families, we can recognize the essential contribution each person brings to the table and its impact on the well-being of the family, community, and society as a whole. ~Katie Reck, Ph.D., CFLE

Written by Andrea Miller - President CMU Family Relations Council
Meet Central Michigan University's, Family Relations Council! We strive to help the community through service and fundraising, while providing professional development opportunities to our members. Our fall semester was very eventful! We tried many new things, and accomplished a lot! We volunteered at a local nursing home, CMU's Trunk-or-Treat, and hosted a trivia night where we donated the proceeds to a local homeless shelter. We also made cards for local domestic violence survivors and participated in NCFR’s International Pronouns Day, which we raised money for a local crisis line. As a result, FRC was awarded the 'Volunteers Are Central' Award, given by our university's Volunteer Center. We are proud our members and the many hours they have dedicated to these important causes.
A primary goal of CMU's Family Relations Council is to educate our members and those around us about issues impacting families today. In 2019, CMU’s FRC is excited to continue growing and learning through education, service, and professional development. We are currently hard at work on this years research project which we will plan to present at this years ILCFR conference in April. Sneak peak: it has to deal with intergenerational use of social media networking websites. We are grateful for our many wonderful members and their outstanding efforts. Family Relations Council provides an important support for Family Studies students, and we are excited for the remaining year to come and all the opportunities in store. ~ Andrea Miller President - Family Relations Council
