The financing of the “Training Programme for education professionals” is such that both the final inclusion of European Workshops and Seminars and the granting of participants’reimbursement of travel expenses are subject to the receipt by the Council of Europe of voluntary contributions from participating countries. Candidates are invited to check for the latest information on the website. The Council of Europe’s financial commitment to participants benefiting from the reimbursement of their travel expenses becomes definitive only on transmission of the official letter (including all documents for the reimbursement of the travel expenses) sent by the Council of Europe. The Council of Europe shall not be responsible for any damage or loss incurred by third parties due to changes in the Programme effected before the transmission of the official confirmation letter by the Council of Europe.

B. Submitting application form :

It is imperative that candidates from the signatory States to the European Cultural Convention send their completed application form to the National Liaison Officer of their country. C. Travel expenses :

D. Director of the European Workshop : The Director of the European Workshop or Seminar will write a pegagogical product stating the conclusions and the recommendations of the themes discussed. Les candidats sont invités à consulter les informations actualisées sur le site Internet. 9. Aims / Objectifs : The course will : • examine how policies relating to the development of children's rights can be most

effectively implemented in schools and how teachers and all education professionals, whose work contributes to the dissemination and awareness of children's rights, can be most effectively supported ;

• go into the role of the teacher as the key player in the education of young people throughout the formative years of their life ;

• explore how they can be supported to develop the rights and competencies they need n order to maximise children's opportunities for efficient and positive learning ;

• address the issues of implementation and provides the education professionals (teachers, headteachers, teacher educators, advisors, etc.) the opportunity to explore together how to build a supportive learning environment which effectively meets the challenges and the needs of chidren’s rights in contemporary society.

Outline programme : • Being a child in the 21st century (historical outline) ; • Council of Europe Convention on Human Rights ; • UN convention of children's rights and other international norms ; • Children in Europe ; • Violences against childrens' rights ; • Best practice at school to integrate methods to strengthen children ; • Didactic and methodological approach in schools ; • How do we support and develop the competencies in the school.

The selection of participants will be done by the Council of Europe. The National Liaison Officers of the candidates must sent the duly completed application forms directly to the Council of Europe (see the postal address here above). The European Seminar will begin at 18h00 on Monday 26 May 2008 and will finish on Friday 30 May 2008 after lunch. Participants, who need to arrive before or leave after the

European Seminar due to the use of a reduced price flight ticket, should contact Mrs Bauer to benefit from free accomodation at the Academy. The nearest airports are Baden-Baden, Stuttgart (Germany) and Strasbourg (France). Contents / Contenu : Das Europäische Fremdsprachenportfolio mit seinen drei Bestandteilen (Sprachenpass – Sprachenbiografie – Dossier) hat sich als Instrument zur Qualitätsentwicklung im Fremdsprachenunterricht auf europäischer Ebene schon in einigen Ländern und in einigen deutschen Bundesländern durchgesetzt. Die Verbindung mit dem Europäischen Referenzrahmen (European Framework of Reference – GER) und den Bildungsstandards für die modernen Fremdsprachen bietet die Möglichkeit, Mehrsprachigkeit, interkulturelle Erfahrungen und Selbst- und Fremdeinschätzung in Verbindung mit Reflexion von Lernprozessen einzelner Lerner und Lernergruppen in einem strukturierten Rahmen zu entwickeln und zu dokumentieren. Ergebnisse sprachlichen Lernens können transparent und international kommunizierbar gemacht werden. Its connection with the Common Frame of Reference and the standards for teaching and learning modern languages opens up new possibilities of developing and documenting diversity in language learning, intercultural learning, assessment and self-assessment in combination with the development of language awareness of indivual learners and learner groups. 10. Contents / Contenu : Im Konkreten lernen die Teilnehmer ein Kommunikationsmodell in vier Modulen für Schüler kennen, in denen sie in entsprechenden Einsatzfeldern in der Schule tätig sind. Ein Basismodul umfasst die Grundlagen der Kommunikationspsychologie, in dem das Gestalten einer Feedbackkultur, das aktive Zuhören und das unmissverständliche Wahrnehmen von Botschaften thematisiert wird. Im zweiten Modul lernen die Teilnehmer ausgewählte Beratungsformen kennen, die die Schülermoderatoren mit ihren Mitschülern gestalten können. Im dritten Trainingsmodul wird thematisiert, wie Schüler Versammlungen oder andere Veranstaltungen moderieren können. Im vierten Modul stehen Grundlagen der Streitschlichtung (Mediation) im Mittelpunkt.Im Kurs werden die einzelnen Inhalte nach einer kurzen theoretischen Erläuterung auch praktisch durch Rollenspiele eingeübt und dadurch Selbsterfahrungen im Erleben dieser Übungen ermöglicht. The participants get to know 4 modules to be carried out in daily school life : The 1st module, based on the principles of modern communication psychology, comprises the creation of a feedback culture, active listening and the unequivocal perception of messages. In the 2nd module, the participants get to know selected ways how to give their classmates advice. In the 3rd module, they get a lot of ideas how to conduct a meeting or a similar activity/event. The last module focuses on the basics of mediation at school. All the above mentioned aspects are shortly explained, followed by role plays, so that the participants can gain/get some experience as well as practice.

Durant ces trois jours, des exposés scientifiques seront proposés en alternance avec des débats, des visites guidées et des présentations d'activités didactiques. Les diverses activités prévues auront une forte dimension interdisciplinaire pour les enseignants d'histoire et de géographie et donneront l'occasion de débattre sur des questions centrales de l'histoire européenne, mais aussi sur les perspectives de développement et d'intégration des États dans le cadre de la nouvelle Europe. De ce point de vue, les présentations prévues et les visites sur le terrain offriront aussi des éléments de réflexion pour l'éducation à la citoyenneté.
