find ourselves defenseless.
The glory is a defense (ref.
Isaiah 4:5), but emotionalism
and feelings are deceptive. They
provide neither strength nor
grace, nor glory, but are spon-
sored by the flesh therefore
they lead in ways of the flesh
and have led many to work the
works of the flesh.
True joy, true inspiration, true
glory will cause the saint to
move closer to God, to sacri-
fice more for Him and His
cause, while feelings and emo-
tionalism cause the professor
to go after the flesh and sacri-
fice time with God or conse-
crations to God to appease the
flesh.
Feelings are not faith. We cannot
build an experience on feelings or
emotion because emotions
change and feelings die down.
A person might get caught up in
the revival fires and swept along
on the tides of its emotion be-
cause there is a feeling that goes
with every revival, but the revival
is not to promote feelings, but to
inspire you to dig deeper so you
can strengthen yourself spiritually.
You can't or shouldn't build far-
ther up in your experience until
you've truly done the prerequisite
digging and establishing of an
unshakable foundation.
This foundation is your personal
relationship, your personal conse-
cration – your personal depth in
God. All growth must spring
forth from the roots growing
deeper into God.
There can be no greater growth
upward without there first being
a deeper growth downward.
The Word of God says of the
people of God, they shall take
root downward and bear fruit
upward (ref. 2 Kings 19:30, Isaiah
37:31). This speaks of a more lit-
eral growth, but it will also happen
in that precise order spiritually.
That only nourishes the soul which
comes from being in God's pres-
ence, that burning fire in the soul
only resides in one whose affection
is all on God. Such causes the indi-
vidual to dig deeper in God and
long for more of God not migrate
toward the things of this world.
James wrote, “Submit yourselves
therefore to God. Resist the devil and
he will flee from you. Draw nigh to
God and He will draw nigh unto
you” (James 4:7-8).
There is a pattern shown here. As
we submit ourselves to God’s will
and resist the temptations of the
enemy, we grow closer to God,
which causes us more joy and
more strength. This increase in joy
makes us desire to continue the
pattern.
There is nothing in us in that sce-
nario that would cause us to come
out of the conflict victorious, yet
more susceptible to the enemy. In
other words joy strengthens us –
emotionalism or feelings deceive
us. When we think we are strong
and go out to tackle the enemy we

As I Was With Moses 3
As I Was With Moses cont. 4
Have faith from day to day
Have faith each time you pray
When misfortune comes your way
Trust in God always
Have faith when things go wrong
Have faith in God alone
We are weak but God is strong
Trust in God all along
Refrain: God will always be there
Just keep on praying all the way
He’ll lead and guide you if you hold His hand
My God will help you stand
When days get dark as night
Faith will make things alright
When teardrops fall like the rain from the sky
God is standing by. – Elton Suragh for Chosen

How much time are
we willing to spend
alone with God so
that God can be
with us as He was
with Moses?

Called Chosen Faithful As I Was With Moses Exodus 33:11-23 “The Lord
spake with Moses face to face as
a man speaketh with his friend.”
This depicts an intimacy, a cer-
tain closeness, a special bond
and relationship with God that
others did not have.
Verse 13 “… shew me now thy
way: that I may know thee, that I
may find grace in thy sight…”
Moses who had this intimate
relationship with God, who
talked to God face to face, who
knew God better than anyone
at that time said, “… show me
now thy way: that I may know
thee ...” This brings to mind
Paul's declaration: “That I may
know Him...” Though he had a
direct line to Him: more inti-
mate than any other at the
time.
The more we know of God the
more we realize we have yet to
learn of Him. God is mysteri-
ous, there is no searching of
His understanding – His ways
are past finding out.
Though Moses knew God and
followed in His way, he had to
get fresh instruction, fresh
guidance, new knowledge. God
has not changed, but what is
His will in this situation?
Where is He leading in this
instance?
The Word of God says,
“Blessed are they which do hun-
ger and thirst after righteousness
for they shall be filled.” We must
never get or think ourselves full
of God. We must never think
we have enough or know
enough, not even in a certain
circumstance or situation.
We must ever have our hearts
open our eyes toward heaven
seeking His face.
ship with God at the same time.
You've got to give yourself to God
in certain way. You've got to
spend more and more time with
God, in His actual presence if
you're going to grow closer to
Him. This means a sacrificing, a
cutting off of what you want to do,
maybe even some things you need
to do, to be with God.
Moses spent much time in a high
mountain apart with God in order
to obtain this relationship. Twice
he spent 40 days and nights up
there alone with God. How much
time are we willing to spend alone
with God so that God can be with
us as He was with Moses?
We might not spend 40 days, but
can we spend 4? We might not
give 40 days, but what about 40
hours? Or 4 hours out of every
day? How bad do you want to
have that intimate personal rela-
tionship with God where He's able
to talk to you face to face as a man
speaketh with His friend?
A song says, “If you'll be a friend of
Jesus... He will be a friend to you.” If
you want to have that close per-
sonal walk with God, it’s going to
take something on your part. You
can't just get it going about your
daily life. You must give God
something to work with. You must
separate yourself.
No Friend Like Jesus – Daniel
O. Teasley
Awaiting His instruction, desiring
His guidance. As Moses prayed,
we must know in every situation
that God is with us and that He's
leading us in this direction.
Samson got in trouble because
He wist not that God had left
him. The difference is Moses
prayed before he moved and
Samson prayed after he tried to
do it in his own strength.
Saul prospered as long as he was
small in his own eyes. Another
king was helped until he was
strong, but when he was strong,
in his own estimation, he tried to
do things in his own strength and
he got in trouble (ref. 2 Chroni-
cles 26:15-16).
Joshua saw the relationship
Moses had with God and was
inspired. He desired to plunge
into the fathomless depths of
God – desired that intimacy –
desired to get to that place in
God.
We as saints of God should have
that longing... God told Moses
there was a place by Him. We
should desire to be in that place;
that should challenge us. Our
direction, our drive, our motiva-
tion must be to get as close to
God as we can. We want God to
be with us in a certain way, we
must do what we have to do to
get closer to God.
James 4:8 - “Draw nigh to God,
and He will draw nigh unto you.”
God has promised “As I was with
Moses ...” Not just to some of us,
but all of us in this dispensation
can have a close personal rela-
tionship with God, but we must
give ourselves to God in a cer-
tain way. We can't be busy about
our own lives, busy about the
things concerning this life and yet
have a deep, intimate relation-
