19 th July 2019 Dear Parents/Carers The summer term and a successful year at Boasley Cross have now drawn to a close. Our Pre-school has been running since September and since then has grown to become a meaningful, outdoor learning provision for our youngest pupils. I want to take this opportunity to thank Miss Furneaux for all her work in the pre-school this year. As a new addition, the pre-school has added huge value to our small school and ensures seamless transition, a kick start to best EYFS provision as well as allowing numbers to continue to grow. From September, it would be great to start the new pre-school year with swifter drop-offs and pick-ups. This applies to the whole school - persistent lates affect the start of a child’s day so please help us to get off to a great start each day! Thank you for all your support this academic year in both the growth of the pre-school and assisting staff to provide the best start to each day for all our children. Good luck! We wish Mrs Jolliffe luck in her new role. As we welcome Miss Bellew as full-time teacher in Littlemoor from September, Mrs Jolliffe has been appointed a new role across our Federation schools as a Music specialist. We will see Mrs Jolliffe across the year groups, offering Music lessons during the year. This is a great opportunity for her to capitalise on her strengths and offer quality whole class Music lessons across our small schools. Mrs Paylor-Sykes will also be greatly missed in our school. Although not travelling too far from Boasley, (Exbourne Primary), staff and pupils wish to thank Mrs P-S for her innovative approach to teaching and learning and for helping Littlemoor pupils to continue to grow and be creative as well as improving their singing voices! Good luck in your new roles Mrs Jolliffe and Mrs Paylor-Sykes, thank you from all at Boasley Cross! 19th July 2019

Dear Parents/Carers

The summer term and a successful year at Boasley Cross have now drawn to a close.

Our Pre-school has been running since September and since then has grown to become

a meaningful, outdoor learning provision for our youngest pupils. I want to take this

opportunity to thank Miss Furneaux for all her work in the pre-school this year. As a

new addition, the pre-school has added huge value to our small school and ensures

seamless transition, a kick start to best EYFS provision as well as allowing numbers to

continue to grow.

From September, it would be great to start the new pre-school year with swifter

drop-offs and pick-ups. This applies to the whole school - persistent lates affect the

start of a child’s day so please help us to get off to a great start each day! Thank you

for all your support this academic year in both the growth of the pre-school and

assisting staff to provide the best start to each day for all our children.

Good luck!

We wish Mrs Jolliffe luck in her new role. As we welcome Miss Bellew as full-time

teacher in Littlemoor from September, Mrs Jolliffe has been appointed a new role

across our Federation schools as a Music specialist. We will see Mrs Jolliffe across

the year groups, offering Music lessons during the year. This is a great opportunity

for her to capitalise on her strengths and offer quality whole class Music lessons

across our small schools.

Mrs Paylor-Sykes will also be greatly missed in our school. Although not travelling too

far from Boasley, (Exbourne Primary), staff and pupils wish to thank Mrs P-S for her

innovative approach to teaching and learning and for helping Littlemoor pupils to

continue to grow and be creative as well as improving their singing voices!

Good luck in your new roles Mrs Jolliffe and Mrs Paylor-Sykes, thank you from all at

Boasley Cross!

Finally, all the staff and pupils at Boasley Cross wish Year 6s every success as they move onto KS3 at

Okehampton College and Shebbear College. You have all done us proud and we will miss you dearly!

Clubs

Clubs are now live on School Gateway – please sign up before places are taken as most clubs have a

maximum intake. Once the places are gone, they are gone! Book your child in for what they are truly

interested in. There are many to choose from, including football, art/craft, photography, marvellous

maths and many more. Please also pay particular attention to the School Gateway section of this

newsletter for all important updates.

As the summer holidays approach, it is so important that our children are able to keep safe when out and

about. Whether we are swimming on Dartmoor or at the beach, below are some tips on staying safe

around water. It is also important that we stay safe in the sun, drinking plenty of water and using sun

screen and hats. There is further advice on staying safe for children on https://www.nhs.uk/live-

well/healthy-body/sunscreen-and-sun-safety/.

Wishing all children and families a very happy summer break. We will see returning children on

Wednesday 4th September!

Best wishes

Mrs Petersen and all the Boasley Staff

SCHOOL GATEWAY

After school clubs are now live on School Gateway, so parents can log into the app

or access the website to give consent and book children onto clubs. Some clubs are

limited in numbers so the earlier the booking is made, the more chance there is of a

place being secured. Additionally from September we will be fully live, so future

trips/swimming etc. will need consents and payments made through School

Gateway as we will be transitioning to be a completely cashless school.

From September, all communications by text will be through Schoolcomms, so it is

important to enable push notifications to ensure text messages are received:

For Apple devices:

On your phone go to Settings

In here scroll down to the "Notifications Centre"

Select School Gateway

In here ensure that under the heading "Notification Centre" it is switched on

Close the screen; you will now receive notifications when new app messages

come through

For Android devices:

On your phone go to Settings | Applications Manager

Scroll down your list of apps until you find School Gateway and select it

In here there will be a tick box that says "Show notifications" ensure this is

selected

Close the screen; you will now receive notifications when new app messages

come through

Additionally, rather than using School Gateway email, please direct

communications to [email protected] as this email is monitored

regularly. Alternatively call 01837 871362 during office hours shown in this

newsletter.

Lastly, a reminder that lunches need to be ordered by 8.30am and any

amendment/cancellation requests are through the school office. From September,

meal bookings will NOT be monitored so it is vitally important to book your child’s

meal if they require a school dinner. Thank you.

FOBCS UPDATE!

FOBCS has had a very successful year this year. We’ve had some great fundraisers, the sponsored walk, Halloween

Disco, Easter Fayre, Bags for school and sports day to name a few!

The Chinese Banquet in February was a huge success! Over 100 people came to enjoy Li’s fantastic cooking. Thank you

Li, Bernard and everyone who helped with the fantastic evening.

The funds we have raised, have gone towards many activities; Theatre trip to Shrek, Visit from Daya, Naturemake,

Christmas party presents, trips to Madewell, Clip and climb, RAMM, Eden Project, Trethorne and Quince honey Farm

and the School Disco at the end of term.

We have also been able to provide funds for new books, Years 6 pool party and leavers Hoodies. This year we have also

been able to provide pre-school with a new large sand pit and a climbing frame and over £1000 for the exciting new

Forest school shelter, enabling the children to enjoy the much loved forest school sessions no matter the weather!

I’d like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has in any way supported Friends of Boasley, no matter how

small. A lot of time and effort (and cakes) goes into fundraising to help give our children at Boasley the best possible

education.

THANK YOU!!!!

A huge thank you to the committee members, whose enthusiasm and commitment have enabled the success of our

fundraising.

FOBCS is reliant on volunteers and we do need more help. We have 1-2 meetings a term, usually in the pub… with a

couple of meals out each year. If you think you’d like to join us or want more info just drop me an email

[email protected] we’d love to hear from you.

Look out for the sponsored walk provisionally booked for the 29th September, details to be confirmed.

Enjoy the summer!!

Attendance: We aim to reach our target of 97%

whole school attendance in order for each child to

reach their full potential. Attendance each day is

essential with no exception except for sickness or

serious illness. Coughs and colds are not serious and

we expect children to come into school. This week

we reached: 97.10% whole school attendance. A

reminder, absence due to sickness needs to be

communicated to the school office on a daily basis.

OFFICE HOURS

Monday/Wednesday/Friday 8.30am to

3pm Tuesday/Thursday 8.30am to 12pm

Please advise the office by 12pm if your

child’s ‘going home’ arrangements are to

change for the day so that this can be

logged for safeguarding purposes.
