TESTING WITH CHROMEBOOKS
Device Imaging and Integration
Nancy Grella Technology AnalystPosted by February 24, 2016
Nancy Grella and Lillie Swearingen worked on testing the
TestNav app on Chromebooks. There are several elementary
campuses that have only XP machines and the TestNav
application does not support Windows XP. Therefore,
Chromebooks are being considered for testing this year at
campuses in need.

Michelle Campos is working with Samara
Rivera-Rangel on Paula’s 2016-17 budget.
After working on the budget together they
met with Katie Hernandez and Paula Ross
to discuss and review the proposed budget.
Michelle handles all maintenance software
renewals for Paula, Larry and Jennifer.
Michelle Campos worked with the CTE department to
purchase and install design software for a student with
special needs at Cy-Ranch. This software will work
with her current Tobii software and allow the student to
design her own clothing line like a professional.

LANDESK PACKAGE CREATION
Device Imaging and Integration
Posted by February 25, 2016
Until this point, LANDESK packaging and bundle creation has
been handled exclusively by Austen Chang, Lillie Swearingen, and
Josh Zhang.
This week, Anthony Melton and Daniel Serwinek learned the
packaging/bundling process in the LDMS Console.
Daniel worked primarily with Destiny (Library) packages, while
Anthony created Transportation software packages.
Soon, every DII team member will be instructed in package
creation.
Lillie Swearingen, Josh Zhang, and Austen Chang are very
excited about the LANDESK packaging project and having
more team members involved in the process!

Thursday night, February 25th Layer3 was onsite at Anthony
Middle School to take down Access points and make sure that
Aruba Access points were deployed according to heat maps.
They worked with district team of Glen Carpenter,
Derly Buentello, and Adriana Cantu . The team worked with
Harold Fontenot from Layer3 on the Anthony cutover. Anthony
MS will be running from DataCenter4.
While the team of Glen Carpenter,
Derly Buentello, and Adriana Cantu
worked on-site at Anthony MS, Andrew
Tran began working with Chris
Lindstrom from BlueCat Networks to
cutover Anthony MS from DataCenter 3
to DataCenter4.

Adriana Cantu from CFISD. The teams worked most of the day and the collaborative effort
finally paid off about 2:00pm that afternoon. Anthony MS wireless connectivity to DataCenter4
was finally functioning as designed.

WIRELESS ISSUES AT JOWELL
Device Imaging and Integration
Lillie Swearingen, Technical Analyst Posted by February 26, 2016
Larry Barrios had a meeting with
Jowell principal Kimberly Crisswell.
Ms. Crisswell mentioned wireless
issues on campus. Anthony Melton
and Daniel Serwinek walked the
campus and communicated with Ms.
Crisswell regarding the concerns.
The main issue was reported in the
Read180 classroom. After walking
Jowell and looking at the laptops in
the Read180 classroom, it was
determined that the Read180 cart
needed to be reimaged, as the last
time it was imaged was in May 2013,
during the ZENWorks rollout.
In addition to the Read180 cart
reimage, there is a possibility of bad
access points as well. This
information has been passed to
Thomas Hollister (ECN) for
troubleshooting.
Above, you can see Anthony Melton, Daniel Serwinek,
and Assistant Principal Laura Rolo.

JCREATOR ON TECHAPPS
Device Imaging and Integration
Lillie Swearingen, Technical Analyst Posted by February 26, 2016
Austen Chang, Josh Zhang, Larry Barrios, and
Lillie Swearingen (not pictured) met with Nita
Waterman, Computer Science teacher at
CyCreek, as well as Denise Kubecka, CATE
Coordinator, to discuss issues regarding
JCreator Pro on the TechApps image.
JCreator Pro 5, the version currently in use,
has a known bug that does not allow scripts to
be compiled on the first tab in the program. In
addition, scripts cannot be directly opened in
the Workspace. Although workarounds have
been supplied, overall the Computer Science
teachers throughout the district are not happy
with the software and it is impeding instruction.
The decision was made to rebuild the
TechApps image with JCreator LE and
JCreator Pro 4, the version used last year,
rather than JCreator 5.
After the image has been rebuilt, a computer
loaded with TechApps will be delivered to
CyCreek for testing of the program.

WORKING WITH INSTRUCTIONAL TECH
Device Imaging and Integration
Lillie Swearingen, Technical Analyst Posted by February 26, 2016
On Friday, Lillie Swearingen attended a meeting with Amy Kainer
(Instructional Technologist) and the Science Curriculum Coordinators to
look at and test out the Smart Microscope 5M, which is being
considered for purchase.
One of the concerns DII has is that there is no silent installation option
for the software required to use the microscope. The customers will
have to go through an installation wizard – instructions can be provided
as necessary.
The presentation and demonstration was lead by David Walling of
SmartSchool Systems.
To the left – The microscope is so powerful,
you are able to see beads of sweat forming on
your fingertips!
To the right – The microscope is portable and
connects via USB cable to computer.
Alternately, a stand is provided for stationary
use.

DII MEETINGS
Device Imaging and Integration
Lillie Swearingen, Technical Analyst Posted by February 26, 2016
Thursday morning, the entire DII team met to discuss the
LANDESK SOW (Scope of Work) being provided by
LANDESK in order to move forward with the best practices
and procedures. The SOW will be prioritized by Lillie
Swearingen, Josh Zhang, and Larry Barrios.
During the meeting, building of packages/bundles was
assigned to team members. Also, ZAVs that have not been
inspected for hard installation versus creation of virtualized
application have been assigned to each team member.
Every member of DII will be critical in the rollout of
LANDESK.
Thursday afternoon, Larry Barrios, Lillie Swearingen
(not pictured), Josh Zhang, Austen Chang, and
Nancy Grella attended a meeting with Frankie
Jackson to discuss the current status of the
LANDESK Advance Agent rollout as well as the
future of MDM (Mobile Device Deployment).

LANDESK EXCITEMENT IN THE AIR!
Device Imaging and Integration
Lillie Swearingen, Technical Analyst Posted by February 26, 2016
As you might imagine, everyone in Device Imaging and
Integration is very excited about moving forward with
LANDESK.
Often during the day, a team member will come up with an
idea to analyze about the deployment or rollout of the
product. LANDESK is in constant discussion throughout the
office during the day, and oftentimes through texts in the
evening.
You can feel the excitement in the air!
To the right, you can see Josh Zhang and Austen Chang
flowcharting some ideas about how to most efficiently
deploy software through LANDESK.
