Why was cane area still increased?

• Cane price was still stable than the other crops during the last few years

• The price was ~1,000 Baht/T cane (35 US$)• Sugar factories would get every ton of cane• Cane can be diversified and added value to

other products

Conclusion

• Sugarcane in Thailand has been increased duringthe last decade due to the stable cane pricecompared with the other crops.

• Thai policy will support sugar industry bytransferring some rice area to cane area

• Sugarcane is used not only for food but also forfeed and fuel including bio-products in the future.

• The productivity improvement for reducing costhas to be focused and implemented from nowonwards due to the low sugar price
